My man and I had a bit of a disagreement on this recently but me and the kids sorta won. Hee hee.

Well they are almost 18, don't party or sleep around.....work and make good grades so I told him I thought they should be able to stay out until dawn if they don't have anything to do the next day.

We compromised on 3:30am.

It was midnight for a few years.

Whats yours or would you put limits on your kids time out at night?

Isn't it a state law that anyone under 18 be off the streets by 10pm?

I thought I could get in trouble for this so told them to just not get caught.....

I am at the current time 23 years old so i dont have a curfew anymore. However, before I was 16 I had to be home by 9 or 10pm and when i turned 16 until i was 18, i had to be home by 12am. However, I dont think the curfew laws were as strict then. I think that it is all a matter of how mature the children are and how much you can trust them to make the right decisions and know that they wont get themselves into trouble. Each individual parent is different.

I have settled on midnight as long as she has her cell phone with her and I know exactly where she is and who she will be with. My daughter's only 16 so I think that's more than reasonable. If she were a partier or had gotten in trouble before I'd probably make it earlier and she'd have much less freedom.

She tends to only go out with groups though, isn't much for dating yet.

Also, just wanted to add, I really don't think turning 18 is when my rules will stop. I expect her to abide by my rules as long as I am supporting her. I don't have many rules though so that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Time will tell.

I don't think living at home should be too cushy for a child who is over 18 years old. If they have complete freedom and mom and dad are supporting them then why should they ever be motivated to leave, heh? I do think that good responsible behavior should be rewarded with more freedom though, as long as they stay in safe situations.

when i was in highschool, i was gone with my best friend from friday night until sunday night... didn't come home the whole weekend. neyond that, i always held a job during school, too, and i wasn't a partier, so i never actually had a curfew, because i knew i had to get to sleep so i could function the next day!! (now that i think about that, it's both funny, :laughing and sad =( at the same time...)

I think from my freshmen year till i graduated i was home a total of maybe once a week (and that was usually while my mom was at work) and that was only to get clothes. i only actually slept there a total of 3 times in all 4 years. =)

Hmm.. I never had a curfew after like age 14.. My best advice, set a curfew for your children. Otherwise they get mixed up in pot/heroin/cigarettes/etc like I did. Lol. But I have managed to keep my ass out of jail for 21 years -=knocks on wood=-

I never had a curfew; as long as I had a reliable ride to wherever I was going and back I could pretty much do whatever I wanted. I was a goody goody as a teen though so I never took much advantage of it.

Well she came home at 4:30 last night. An hour after curfew. But she is almost 18, I don't want to put too many limits on a good kid and make them sneak, lie or rebel. She was with her boyfriend at his house which is safe, he is a good kid....no sex before marriage no drugs or drinking..works.....plays in a band....makes good grades. So I was not mad. Now the thing is......when Klaus gets up.....do I tell him? I guess I should......
