NickolausPacione Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 House of Spiders 3 Page count: 88 Publisher: Naked Snake Press Authors: Nickolaus A. Pacione and Barbara Marjanovic Genre: Horror (Monster / Gothic / Science Fiction) Here it is for those of you who read the House of Spiders short story on FictionPress.com or AuthorsDen.com I co-wrote a sequel with novelist Barbara Marjanovic of Calgary, Alberta. The novel is set on the county limits of Du Page County, and brings Gothic Horror into familar territory for me but brings an aspect of the older authors Bram Stoker and H.P. Lovecraft. Donna Burgess is the publisher, newcomer Rachael Hurst brings the story to life with her illustrations giving the story a feel of the 1950s pulp horror and science fiction movies. The most brutal horror story by far from either author. Check out Barbara Marjanovic's short story collections on either Iuniverse or Amazon.com. I first published Barbara Marjanovic on Quakes and Storms: A Natural Disaster Anthology then featured her on the second issue of my magazine with a story titled The MacIntosh Haunting. Nerve shattering horror at its more evil and macabre. If you can guess which author is which you will have a chance to edit a new story from me, to double my chances at being published in Weird Tales -- the rules being no erotic content with edits to the story. The feel to House of Spiders is a cross between the Night Shift era Stephen King and Call of Cthulhu era H.P. Lovecraft. A story much bigger than Shadow out of Time and darker than The Call of the Cthulhu. Barbara is influenced by Edgar Allan Poe and Stephen King. These influences will show in the Canadian characters. The Midwest setting, House Of Spiders characters and the spiders themselves were my creation -- the characters with the Canadian accents were Barbara's. Then the visceral nature of the horror became something we both took turns at writing, taking turns coming up with creative ways some of the characters die in the story. The highest death count for a novella by me -- 29 deaths. I actually went out to see if I can top Jason X with the death count.
