I read this article today and it got me thinking about it.

it is very alarming the facts they have found recently.

I personally, have made some small changes in my lifestyle that may (or may not contribute?) to better cleaner living.

I am more careful about leaving lights on.....

I have turned my A/C way down....

(I hate AC anyways! )

More conciencous about recycling.....

I bought flourecent light bulbs for all the lights in the house....(I'm am waiting for the originals to burn out before I install them though...I'm cheap ok?)

Gross or not....

Here is a motto:

If it is clear you're in the clear, if it is brown, flush it down.

I flush less.

I do laundry less.

I turn the water off when brushing my teeth instead of letting it run....

I wash my hair less....saving water, saving energy (Blow drying / curling irons) and it keeps my hair less damaged!!

I don't drive as often for recreation....

I have started to use pump spray hair sprays and stuff....as much as I hate it cause it you get better coverage from an aerosal can...but oh well...

AND I have also made people in my presence be more cautious....they can do whatever they want when not around me....

if you throw a cigarette butt on the ground, I'll pick it up...

Don't even think of littering out of my car...I WILL stop and make you pick it up. :laughing

I really do think it is scarey what we have done....

I don't think we can do too much now unless we ALL act quickly.

But alas....a majority will not want to give up certain lifestyles or make changes.

:confused

I think anyone who's read at all about this understands that the earth goes through warming and cooling trends over long periods of time. But.. There is clear proof that a number of the things we do in a modern, mechanized society do damage to the earth in subtle and not so subtle ways. Whether they are contributing to the current trends in weather, global warming, etc is perhaps debatable. What's not debateable is that finding more earth friendly products and processes for living our lives would benefit us all. Cutting back on energy use, emitting less polution, protecting forests and natural resources can't hurt... so why not do it? Money??? What a short sighted, fucked-up way to think.

I remember colder winters.....more snow.....lots of rain. I remember thunderstorms every afternoon as a kid.

This heat and dry shit sux ass.

I remember Mt. St. Helens blowing it's top off.

I remember the Climatologists saying that our weather was permanently changed because of all the dust it tossed in the air.

I remember that the winter before that was the last really hard winter we have had.

I remember reading about a great number of volcanoes going off in recent years.

Even certain medications mess with the ozone. I have to use Albuterol inhalers. They've reformulated it, but the mechanism gets clogged on an incredibly frequent basis. I miss the old, ozone-unfriendly version. At least it worked and I didn't have to spend excessive amounts of time unclogging it.

Hurricane Katrina. Domestic wiretapping, Phony terrorism alerts. The 9/11 terrorist attacks themselves. But of all the cruel jokes Bush has played on the American people, nothing compares to his recent promise to end their addiction to fossil fuels. Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t that like letting your local crack dealer run the rehab clinic? The Chimp actually said it with a straight face, though, and I’m sure I wasn’t the only progressive who was baffled by his sudden environmental enlightenment.

In case you missed it, the other jackboot dropped yesterday.

“Roof makers will one day be able to make a solar roof that protects you from the elements and at the same time, powers your house," Bush told reporters in Michigan yesterday. "The vision is this: that technology will become so efficient that you'll become a little power generator in your home, and if you don't use the energy you generate you'll be able to feed it back into the electricity grid."

So let me get this straight. Bush wants me to spend $15,000 of my own money installing solar panels on my roof, and then sell whatever I don’t use back to the city so his Big Sunshine Buddies can gouge my neighbors on a rainy day? No wonder the Shrub is suddenly so jolly about solar power. His plan would effectively create ten of thousands of miniature Mom & Pop Enrons, all screwing their neighbors for an extra buck and pouring their ill-begotten loot right back into the RNC.

Just like water, air, real estate, and personal income, sunlight is a natural resource that belongs to everyone. It shouldn’t be hoarded like cats in Grandma's trailer, but held in trust by community leaders and distributed to each person according to his need. Obviously, Bush doesn’t have any concern for the energy requirements of people who live under bridges or in sewer systems where the sun does not reach. Nor does he care how unfair solar power is to parts of the world that aren’t blessed by constant sunshine. Will Bush do the right thing and cut back U.S. energy production so Germany, France and other sunless locales can compete with us in the global marketplace? What of states that are heavily dependent on aggressive gas taxes to create pointless union jobs? Will there be federal assistance available for the thousands of impoverished contractors who will be forced to sell one of their Harleys just to put food on the table?

There are bound to be severe environmental ramifications to solar power as well. One or two rooftop solar kits are just the beginning. Endless fields of solar panels soaking up the sun’s rays like giant sponges will cast the world into a dark age unseen since Reagan was elected. Animal species and plant life that depend on their meager share of sunlight to survive will be threatened with extinction. Crops will fail. Millions will starve. Ted Kennedy's days of nude sunbathing will be over. Do you want to live in that world? I sure don't.

As much as I like the idea of weaning Americans off its addiction to petroleum, Bush’s plan has more holes than the golf course he was goofing around on while 10,000 poor Blacks drowned in New Orleans. What he fails to understand is that the problem is deeply rooted in our culture, and can only be corrected through the relentless and merciless taxation of all drivers until they have no choice but to give up their selfish love affair with the automobile forever.

We can then use the funds to build more roads.

People have been using Solar power and selling the extra power generated back to the power companies for years. As far back as the 70's. Most solar powered homes pay for themselves in savings in about 10 years. Just so you know... all the plants around a solar powered home grow just fine.

Damn. "Larry" is the first liberal I've ever heard dog on solar power. Gotta give props to him for not being a blind slave to the ideals of his party. Really.

Im not totally up on global warming. It is one of the things on my "to be researched" list though.

I've seen the TV shows were they say that its "just a cyclical change in climate" and also the "no , its a man-made problem." I wont pretend to know much more about it beyond that, nor if i think its a "real problem" or not as yet. (working on more 911 stuff, the chirst as historical figure subject and a few cosmology issues before i get to it)

I will be doing my homework on it, just right now i have a few other things on the list before i get to it.

Oh and just as a random piece of info the last article i read about solar was that the panels were not good enough to pay for themselves before needing to be replaced/repaired if you live in an area with heavy cloud cover (like michigan). This was awhile ago the tech may have improved considerably since then.

I like the "idea" of renwable energy I'm just not sure if the tech is up to snuff yet. (again have not dont much research, just relating my last impression of it)

When I was researching the possibility of making RoboBugs for my kids I found a solar panel that was only 8" x 8" the promised 19.1v at high noon. At that time I thought "Wow that's strong for a solar panel that small." Then I read further and well there where a few expletives when I found out that it was flexible also. I would assume that a fixed panel can generate higher voltage. Sorry I cant remember wattage but hey do remember thinking I could save some money if I powered florescence with it.
