n0Mad Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Wow, it sounds like Star Wars or something. The Grand Army of the Republic. Anyway, ever wonder what that castle by City Club is? Now you know.
Fierce Critter Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Page about the GAR building on The Fabulous Ruins of Detroit Site. I'm sorry. But though I'd like to see that building renovated and restored, I fully expected the part of the article that mentioned the groups that are protesting losing the building, but yet never did anything to buy it or do anything with it. Detroit is not a city to sit back and "hope for the best" to come along. You either gotta do something or expect the worst.
Homicidalheathen Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Hey, if a person with money wants to turn it into a club and restores it in the process......I don't see what the problem is. It would bring people down and well what the hell. It would make a cool club.
Msterbeau Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Anybody got $1.6 million for me to buy and renovate that place? I WANT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest Game of Chance Posted August 22, 2006 Posted August 22, 2006 Heh. You and about 100 other people. Hey, wait, that's only $1600 each. My friends and I have been talking about buying that building for more than 10 years.

If I had $2mil, I'd turn it into a Civil War museum. It would honor the building's tradition and just be a cool place I think. I always liked the ones down south. Then again, they're obsessed with the war down south and most of them still think they're fighting it.

So many cool things could be done with it... too bad it's been left to rot.
