Fierce Critter Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 So, if you were to put together a disc of songs to put on the player and let play as you relax and, eventually, fall asleep, what would be on it? Working on my own tonight, since I hooked up the DVD player we found in the trash to the home theater system we found in the trash to the speakers we found on the trash, and it sounds freaking wonderful in teh bedroom now. I'll report back later what ends up on it. I know it'll include a lot of Coltrane. And if I can get my lazy ass to rip my own Cure CD's into MP3's, that'll end up on there, too. Plus everything in between.
BrassFusion Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 Already got one... Ziggy Stardust (the album, not just that song), the four tracks I have by Stem, "Everyone Who Pretended To Like Me Is Gone" and "Bows + Arrows" by The Walkmen, and "As The World Falls Down" by Bowie, and "We Never Change" by Coldplay. So the playlist is an hour and a half long and USUALLY I'm asleep by the time it's over. Sometimes not, though. =(
Fierce Critter Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 Alrighty. We've got... I Touch Myself - DiVinyls Bad Touch - Bloodhound Gang You Suck - Consolidated Closer - Nine Inch Nails Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye Bolero - Ravel... ... ... Wait. Wrong list. Back later... A-Winka

JaneDead Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 and of course - the cure. but that would be a whole cd not a song. the cure has always been my ultimate in chill out music. i also like some songs on the trainspotting cd for that. some prince too. but the cure and prince are 2 of my all time favorites no matter what so of course i would go with them. hmm what else... i have a lot of cds that i don't have on my computer... oh some smashing pumpkins. some jazz for sure. though i don't have any titles off the top of my head. frank sinatra. dean martin. ok i am done again.
JaneDead Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 ok one more... the garden state soundtrack. when i first got that i just listened to it a lot and it made me feel relaxed. it was best with the headphones on so that was all i heard and nothing else. (ie. my kids )
BrassFusion Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 i love your mellow mix, jane! i have a lot of the same tracks in mine
jadnifer Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I would probably listen to some classical music. I think that that is very relaxing. I also like love songs and songs of that sort that are slower. The only one that I can think of right now is Every Rose Has It's Thorn by Poison. I will report back when I think of some more though. Oh, and I Want To Know What Love Is by Foreigner
Fierce Critter Posted September 8, 2006 Author Posted September 8, 2006 ok one more... the garden state soundtrack. when i first got that i just listened to it a lot and it made me feel relaxed. it was best with the headphones on so that was all i heard and nothing else. (ie. my kids ) My sister and her husband played tourists in Garden State. That's all. I haven't seen it yet, so I can't tell you anything more.

LuluVox Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 A very large fan.....on Hi speed....blowing right at my face....covered up in a million blankets! Yes! That's one of my favorite things, too! As far as a mellow mix goes, mine would include: Lime Tree Arbor -- Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds Japanese to English -- Red House Painters Lullaby -- Siouxsie & the Banshees Carry Me Ohio -- Sun Kil Moon Flutter -- 16 Horsepower She Would Die for Love -- Julee Cruise Wild Horses -- The Sundays Ocean Rain -- Echo & the Bunnymen Wild Is the Wind -- Nina Simone Land of a Thousand Boys -- Brenda Holloway Dreams Burn Down -- Ride My Russia -- Woven Hand Trouble -- Coldplay Suzanne -- Leonard Cohen Asleep -- The Smiths Song to the Siren -- This Mortal Coil A Strange Kind of Love -- Peter Murphy Winter -- Tori Amos Anything by Radiohead off of Kid A Various and sundry Cocteau Twins and Dead Can Dance Lots of other stuff
kellygrrrrrl Posted September 8, 2006 Posted September 8, 2006 I can't do music in bed though...it will keep me up... I'll lay there and sing, hum, kick my feet to the beat....it's horrible.

Paper Hearts Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I find Infomercials make a great back drop for sleeping...or Mother Angelica Live. That is if you have a television and ever turn it on.
Fierce Critter Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 Now that I finally figured out how to turn a playlist into a text document... I woke up somewhere around 7:00 a.m. and was only up to song #60 out of 74.
n0Mad Posted September 9, 2006 Posted September 9, 2006 I probably need a mix like that. For too long what I've been falling asleep to is a pillow full of tears and prayers to God asking for a miracle.
Fierce Critter Posted September 9, 2006 Author Posted September 9, 2006 I probably need a mix like that. For too long what I've been falling asleep to is a pillow full of tears and prayers to God asking for a miracle. Ah, Dude. That's just freaking pitiful. :tear You poor thing. You going to be at City Club tonight (the 9th)? You want a copy of this? To fit this many songs, it has to be in MP3 format, which plays on our DVD player in the bedroom. If you need an audio disk, I can whittle it down to your choices. It's really worked magic for me. I've had bad insomnia for years now, and have had to wear pretty heavy duty earplugs due to Jon's snoring. But with this mix, I can even sleep over his snoring sans earplugs and if I wake in the middle of the night, it lulls me back to zzzzzz land.
n0Mad Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 Ah, Dude. That's just freaking pitiful. :tear You poor thing. And I was doing so good for so long too. Lately though ... I saw it coming, tried not to let it happen, but I was powerless to resist. It's foolish to keep up hope but that's the only thread I'm hanging on and will cling to 'til death. You going to be at City Club tonight (the 9th)? You want a copy of this? To fit this many songs, it has to be in MP3 format, which plays on our DVD player in the bedroom. At work, truck night moved to Fridays and tag night is always Saturdays so I won't be getting either of those nights off. After the next holiday (Halloween?) the truck will move to Mondays I think so that may open up Fridays and I can start clubbing again. At least until the holidays push the truck forward again to Thursday or Friday. We'll see though. So, if you would dump all the MP3s to DVD, I can give you my address and have you mail it to me or figure out some other way. Maybe even wait until November when I might be able to make CC. Thanks.
Hellion Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 :devil "Us and Them" Pink Floyd, sounds even better after smoking a joint. "Eminence Front" The Who Music from Therion "Edge of Thorns" Savatage
Gothmama25 Posted September 13, 2006 Posted September 13, 2006 I find Infomercials make a great back drop for sleeping...or Mother Angelica Live. That is if you have a television and ever turn it on. I agree with you there. Most infomercials now are really snoozeable.
DarkVampire Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Classical, something light. I can't sleep if it's too noisy or music that has singing.
Hex Posted September 17, 2006 Posted September 17, 2006 Since the songs themselves vary each time, plus it changes with mood as well, I can't make a definitive list. However, the artists that usually make their way on my list are: Pink Floyd Voltaire (love them violins!) Enya Tiamat Clannad Any of the slower songs by Concrete Blonde The Cruxshadows Dead Can Dance Loreena McKennitt Enigma Delerium (which is currently MIA dang it!) Various classical Unfortunately, most of my music annoys the piss out of my husband (while he's awake, let alone trying to sleep), so unless I hit the sack before he does, I'm stuck with only Enya & Clannad for choices. Sometimes I can get away with Voltaire...but it's iffy. It get's really bad if I'm in the mood where the solid beats of techno, electronica, industrial, EBM, etc....are the only things that will work. Those are DEFINITELY a no go with the other half lol. I REALLY need to invest in a iPod or similar with some earbuds.
DeadBurgerKing (10) Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Mine's simple...Pink Floyd- "The Wall"
