$800 Popcorn Kernel

Tuesday night I'm happily munching handfuls of popcorn and I bite down HARD on an unpopped kernel. It hurt so badly I thought I must have broken the tooth, but I don't see any damage. Can't bite on that side without it hurting. Later that night I chew some raisins on the other side and I feel a piece of the tooth come off.

Dentist couldn't see me until today. Last night I had a very vivid dream where they had to insert a nasograstric tube because they said I would not be able to eat for a mionth. My dental phobia is in high gear even in my dream life.

I have to pay around $300 of an $800 dental bill (yay for insurance, though I wish they would cover it all). I dread the procedure. I have a temporary filling and then all that including the old amalgam filling has to be removed and replaced with composite (estimated 70 minutes drilling he says) and then a temporary crown, come back in to get that wedged off and a permanent ceramic one placed. ack.

It should last at least 10 years though and will be a lot prettier than the ugly black filling I had before.

You know, I've heard about people suing for things a lot more frivilous than this... *ponders*

Heh.

That so sucks.

I had a crown put in after my tooth cracked in half. I think they stuck a filling too close to the outer part of the tooth, weakening it.

wow.

If it cost that much I think I'd have to be without that tooth. Yikes.

Yes...ended up with out the tooth after a failed root canal that ended up in extraction, and then finally a nice expensive bridge to avoid my teeth from shifting causing thus MORE $$ to be forked out in the long run....

all together somewhere around $5000 over a very painful year or 2....

Oh wow. I thought you were talking about just one tooth.

It's definitely worth the $$ if it meant keeping the rest of your teeth healthy, though I'm sure that really sucked royally to have to go through all that.
