DGN & Donations

Basically, i can barely afford to pay for DGN anymore.

My income is such that i cant absorb the costs forever unless my health gets better which is probably not realistic to expect anytime soon. In the past the cost of DGN was fairly trivial in relation to my income, not so anymore. My income is a joke now. It really doesn't cost all that much to pay for dgn spread out across how many people use it, but it does cost some money, its not totally free.

Right now it looks like we have a lot of money in the DGN Paypal account but really, that is from mainly 1 time donations, and within a month or two we will be back to having very little money to pay for DGN and it will just come out of my (now virtually nonexistent) bank account.

I did a lot of reading about how non-profit orgs get donations. Much of it is not really relevant to DGN as we don't do many of the things that a "typical" non-profit does.

But the two key things that they have in common that can be implemented here:

1. People need to be "asked" directly to donate.

2. People like public recognition that they have helped.

I'm not sure how to "ask" people on DGN to donate without pissing people off with direct "can you donate?" PMs constantly and i generally feel like a jerk for asking so this wont happen very often. But, the public recognition one is pretty workable.

I've created two different "donation levels" which are:

Feel free to donate any amount , but if its less than $5 the credit card and/or Paypal transaction fees eat up such a large portion of the donation that its a bit crazy.
