I personally find this funny...

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) --

Jaleel White, who played 'nerdy Steve Urkel on "Family Matters" found dead Monday.

He was 29 years old.

White was pronounced dead on arrival after admission to an LA hospital early Monday morning. The death is being investigated as a suicide.

Born Jaleel Ahmad White, he began his career at the age of three acting in television commercials, before landing guest spots on shows such as "The Jeffersons" and "Mr. Belvedere." It was in 1989 that White landed the role that would make him famous, playing wacky neighbor 'Steve Urkel' on the ABC program "Family Matters."

Following the cancellation of "Family Matters" in 1997, friends claim White became obsessed with the character, and grew despondent, despite further successes as star and producer of the UPN sitcom "Grownups", and as a writer for NBA.com

Neighbor and friend, Bradley Spencer alerted police after hearing what he described as "a loud bang" coming from White's Los Angeles apartment.

Authorities state that upon entering the home they discovered a young African-American male with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Also found was a note, which read simply "Did I do that?", a popular catchphrase from the show.

"Jaleel was an uncommonly good man, an exceptional role model and a great comedic actor," said William Bickley, who created the series, and Thomas L. Miller, one of the executive producers, in a joint statement.

"We feel privileged to have known him and worked with him. He'll be missed and remembered every day by his many, many friends," they said.

Actress Kellie Williams -- Laura Winslow on the series -- described White as a consummate professional actor. "Everyone adored him," she said.

"We have all lost a dear, dear brother," said Reginald VelJohnson, who played Carl Winslow.

White, an only child, is survived by "cousins, aunts, uncles, and wonderful friends," Bickley said.

Wow. He never even made it out of his twenties.

He did used to make me laugh.

The suicide note seems like it was meant to be sort of a sad, funny irony, but it seems more sad than anything that he summed up his life in a line from a character he played.

One of the reasons why I find it funny LOL.

Wow, I remember watching that show as a kid too, though I'm not suprised, most celebraty kids wind up pretty fucked up in the head in their grownup years....

... but personally, I found the note funny.... I wonder... it must have taken him a while to pick that catch phrase over "HELP!! I'VE FALLEN AND I CAN'T GET UP!!!" ... If I was Jaleel... I'd have left that note. But I guess he knows the character best, he played him, and became obsessed....

One last thing, for those of us too lazy to simply do a google search....

...mind posting the link to the news article here?

Actually that line was from a old woman in a commercail about the emergency alarm buttons in the early 90's.

Yeah, but he overused both those catch phrases in the show... another thought I had on this... I bet he wouldn't have shot himself if the actor who played Laura Winslow would have gone out with him finally...

If he was that obsessed with his character (who was obsessed with Laura) then you know he wanted to bone her.... I bet he killed himself cuz she wouldn't spread eagle for him in real life either.

That MUST be it.

So...it took someone 17 years to come up with this. Let's reflect on how sad that is.

How the hell is anyone's death funny?

Hmm.

Worshiping suicide isn't "morbid" or "goth" so much as it is "sociopathic," methinks. When you've felt some real pain in your life maybe you won't be so quick to giggle about the misfortune and desperation of others.

Lovely message to my inbox by the way, I hope the image i sent along with my reply shed's some basic life principals to you, and as for me trying "act" goth? I could just as easily call you a poser too. And I assure you, you have no idea what sort pain I've been through and exactly how intense it has been, that is why I laughed at this post, to see that someone would commit suicide so easily and leave a note like that, it IS humorous to me. The topic is untrue, but the idea is still quite humorous in my opinion.

I'm NOT "goth." But that's a threadjack of a different color. If you have more personal crap to say to me, keep it to PM.

oh I did, and I blocked you, I've better things to do than deal with people who can't take a joke and throw insults my way in my inbox. I'm ending this convo now, say what you will, but I will not talk to one who calls me immature while throwing Jr. High style insults in my inbox. Buh Bye now!

The catch phrase use was kinda funny....

But then again.....

I posted something I thought was funny out of a book about serial killers a while ago.....

No one on here thought it was funny I guess....

couple of my freinds did.....

Just some phrase a guy said about a head falling and whatnot.....

I suppose its funny if it isn't someone you know personally.

As usual insults are not wanted on DGN. Also, insult A doesn't justify insult B in response. DGN strives to be (but doesn't always succeed) a friendly, civil place.

1. Ignore it.

2. Respond privately.

3. Contact a mod.

4. Respond very tactfully in a way that doesn't continue the insults.

Thats it. There are the choices. This is not a "negotiable" point. If you want to be on a board where insults are accetable there are plenty of online communities that have no problem with such things. Yes the mods along with some input from the community decide what is and isn't "rude" or "too rude" to be allowed to slide. We try very hard to be fair.

If there is a problem with this, go read the DGN Rules & FAQ. Still don't understand? (near impossible if you read the rules fully) Then PM a mod don't argue about it here.

Still don't get it? If you don't want to help DGN be a friendly place then we'd prefer you to find a place that you are more comfortable with.

Let's take a moment to reflect on the golden years of Jaleel White's career...when he gave a certain blue speedy hedgehog his voice...that's right...he gave sonic the hedgehog his voice...back in the day when the fat inventor was called "Dr. Robotnic" and NOT "Eggman"...whenever I see those old episodes of Sonic (NOT Sonic X on fox) and I watch him scorf down his favorite chili dog...I shall shed a tear for our loss...assuming he's dead...
