Work Rant!

Let me preface this by saying I actually like my job. I work in the business office of an orthopedic surgery clinic doing mostly medical records, a little billing. I like what I do, I like the hours and the benefits and most of the company policies. I even like most of the people, at least on an individual basis.

The thing that bothers me is that the business office is comprised of all women, and the majority of them seem to live for idle chit-chat, office gossip and making catty remarks about whomever has most recently left the room. Most days I just ignore them and try to get my own work done. I have no interest in 99% of what they have to say, aside from being a little irritated that I'm actually working while they're standing around gossiping. They're really starting to get on my nerves though. Today they actually had the never to imply that something is going on between me and the medical director, who is married. Their proof? He was coming around the corner the same time that I was; he tripped on the rug and stumbled and grabbed onto me to keep his balance. The nosiest woman in my office was going around all day telling anyone who would listen, exaggerating the whole time.

A friend of mine, who also works with all females is going through the same thing. It seems women don't care how catty or bitchy they come across if there are no men around to hear them. Anyone else experienced this? I'm tempted to say something to my boss, but I don't want to be the "tattletale."

You know what I hate about working with women? They eat. Constantly. And if your not into breaking your diet vows with them......your ousted.

Pot lucks.....candy dishes....take out....if you don't participate its almost like your the odd one and not into the office politics.......I find it very hard to maintain a normal weight around people who constantly pick on you for not being over weight enough to suit their selfish.....be like me or else....standards.

Im going to have to assume there are a few ringleaders that are mean spiritted that are causing the problem.

I've worked with all women, all men, all black people (except for me) and i dont really think its the sex or the race that makes it "good or bad" its the specific personalities.

Although i will say black women sure are forward! I like it! heh. Don't have to guess if they like you or not.

Normally after a time, they get what's comming to them. They'll say the wrong thing at the wrong time, and the wrong ears will hear it. Now I know you don't want to be a tattle tale, but spreading gossip of a sexual relation counts as sexual harassment. If the gossip gets out of hand, it might turn real ugly as you'll get in a spotlight you'd rather not be in, for something you didn't do. I want to say fight fire with fire, but that often has negative consequences... If anything, I'd confront her and tell her that I hear EVERYTHING she says, and tell her to shut the fuck up or you will nail her for sex. haras., and if this threat makes her want to say something else, you'll hear of it and follow through with your threat then. Also, what starts all this gossip is boredem, an idle mind is such a terrible cause of destruction. Who knows, maybe someone will start a rumor about her and not shutting up about her idea of you and the boss, like she just secretly wants to shag him. Goodluck and keep us posted on any events.
