mallochai Posted March 13, 2005 Author Posted March 13, 2005 toys that my dog has: two ropes six balls a chewy ring a blue and white kong how many other kinds of toys can a dog really have?
paradox Posted March 13, 2005 Posted March 13, 2005 pets are like kids. how many toys can a kid have? my daughters room is packed. but what does she play with most? empty paper towel rolls, scrap paper, crayons, sticks... whole room full of toys...
Ginevra Posted March 14, 2005 Posted March 14, 2005 When I still had dogs, I had a whole passel of toys and I would rotate them so it's like they were getting new toys. Some dogs need to chew more than others. I think you said that he was still a puppy/near puppyhood? If so, he might be teething or simply feeling the need to chew, which is quite normal and natural. You might want to check out the local pet store and see if they have bones that have all the meat and stuff removed for him to chew on. Then he has something to chew that won't mess on your carpet/floors like rawhide will. Most of the toys that you named are interactive toys that are good when one of you are available to play as well. This has mainly been my experience with dogs that the above is true. It, of course, may not hold true for someone else's dog/puppy or someone else may have better suggestions.
mallochai Posted March 15, 2005 Author Posted March 15, 2005 I did pick up a few more toys the other night after posting that, but he's real big on chewing all his toys, not so much for the fetching of them. he'll sit there and gnaw on them, rather than bring them for us to play with too. and of course, as not quite seven months, he's still teething. we give him ice cubes, lots of chewable bones and stuff. the ropes are really good for that too.
