I don't understand why so many threads go into two, three, or four pages of basically two or three people arguing the same point back and forth.

Can't people just say what they have to say and accept that not everyone feels the same way, especially on controversial topics? Do they really think the other person is going to drop their stance after two pages of arguing, and furthermore, what does it matter if they do? As far as I know, no one on DGN is a high ranking politician; so what's the point of trying to get them to change their stance on politics, religion, etc?

Yes, there are many times certain people on here disagree with one's opinion in a way that is rude, condescending and abrasive. Is it so hard to just let those people look like an ass and not sink to their level, or at least respond in a PM?

yeah... me too sweetie. At this stage of my life I'm pretty live & let live, & pointless arguing (as opposed to intelligent exchange of opinions or even polite debate) irks me to no end. It's one reason I'm prone to disappearing from here for a few months at a time... when the energy gets past a certain level of negativity it's time for a break.

Like I tell my students, "Just because it goes through your head, doesn't mean it has to come out of your mouth". Or your keyboard, as the case may be.
