Inherit The Wind

Ok. So I was on my full price and entirely legal file sharing site and saw Inherit The Wind while doing an unrelated search. I thought, "oh, awesome, it's that movie about the Scopes Monkey Trial, it's been forever, think I'll download it."

So it starts going and I went off to do the dishes and came back and it dawned on me that Inherit The Wind is NOT about the Scopes Monkey Trial, but instead about these Indian guys who get all pushed off their land and stuff and their Chief makes this heart-wrenching speech about how terrible the white dudes are treating them and about how someone will end up "inheriting the wind."

So I cancelled the download and deleted it, cuz I saw that movie a long time ago and was bored out of my mind.

Except of course... Inherit The Wind really IS about the Scopes Monkey Trial, and I'm double-fault retarded. So I resumed downloading it (it sucks cuz I had to pay for it twice ;) )and I can't for the LIFE of me remember the name of the movie with the Indians and that Chief. I just know the title was all symbolic, about wind, or feet, or something. And it was probably made around 1963, if I had to guess.

Someone please help me. If I don't find this out on my own, it's gonna drive me nuts in a couple days.

He has a number of good films.

On The Beach being almost totally overlooked due to it being "science fiction" (very little actual science fiction in it other than the premise). Great movie I feel probably his best work. The "doomsday" feel of it is remarkable for the time it was released. Fairly chilling once you suspend your disbeif.

All of them of corse slowly paced like most all films of the era. Which turns a lot of viewers off. Older films are sort of an aquired taste for most of us.

The Pride and the Passion sucked pretty bad. Should have been great given the subject matter but it just blew. I think he must have just not gave a damn while he was making it.

On the Beach

Inherit the Wind

Judgment at Nuremberg

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Ship of Fools

All good stuff, probably in that order.

Warning to anyone randomly reading this:

These are slow paced "old" movies, if you dont like older films especially ones with slow pacing, these will probably be a bitch to digest and put you to sleep.

If you want to learn how to like old movies i'd suggest renting the AFI 100 list in cronological order starting with the newest film and working your way backwards through time or the Oscar Best Picture/Actor/Actress picks starting from most recent to oldest backward through time. Neither list is overly amazing but they are all competent films worthy of at least one viewing. (with maybe one or two exceptions)

I used to love Its a Mad Mad Mad Mad World when I was a cub... wonder how well it holds up, tho. Actually I would prolly appreciate it more now, since I know the stories of some of the endless celebs who appear in it...

It was a mildly difficult watch for me recently. Being so used to the modern style of films. The wacky/fun and OMG NO SEXUAL OR MEGA SWEARING jokes??? Who does that anymore? Takes a bit of getting used to heh. Im starting to think if the word "motherfucker!" isnt in the punchline of a joke its not allowed to be played nowadays. =P

I recently force-fed myself all (to change subjects drastically) hitchcock films. They are good... but can be an uphill battle to get in the "mood" being brainwashed by modern stuff / pacing so much.
