Hellion Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Well what kind of music do you hear,or have to hear at work? We can bring in radios at our work, and listen to almost anything but rap, emo, and country, I did'nt make the rules either. But other than that Other places I have worked at I was subjected to Muzak, and elevator christmas music, and WNIC,eewww!! some places let you bring your own radio in,as long as you don't blast it loud and piss off other employees, but some places subjuct you to new age crap, and a pair of ear plugs are a must. Believe me IMO everyone should be allowed to listen to what ever they want to,just as long as it is'nt overpowering everyone elses music. share your stories.

Fierce Critter Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 I worked for AAA Michigan's legal department for a year and a half. And it was, hands down, the most miserable I've ever been on a job in my entire life. I was able to improve conditions ever so slightly when I found the knob that controlled the volume of the piped-in muzak. I turned it up loud enough to hear decently, and started keeping track of the songs I could recognize in an attempt to guage just how many songs were on the loop and what kind of songs were murdered. It was a desperate time.
LuluVox Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 I listen to itunes on my headphones most of the time.
Dubh Aingeal Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 As I work alone on my shift I generally either have what ever music I feel like listening to going, or I have movies going. All depends on my mood, and how bored I am.
MarsDustDoug Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 we have asome great playlists on the store stereo. tops ones include A GREAT reggae collection with soooooo many good bands. the Blues playlist is all good delta blues, therefore rocks an 80's new wave playlist and a "chill" one that includes mandalay, zero 7, thievery corporation, apollo 440, morcheeba... yes its excellent! so when something bad comes on, we just go change the playlist. hehe we have a cool cuban and brazillian list too that gets tossed on from time to time.
Head Wreck Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 headphones when i'm in the lab, no music on floors. and about 2 or three CD's of differant moods in each of our cars (i mostly end up driving the ford as i am one of 4-5 that can get the hang of the clutch on that)
bav Posted November 10, 2006 Posted November 10, 2006 I listen to itunes on my headphones most of the time. /agree...my music 4tw!
maeve Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I either listen to DGN Radio (honestly) or I'll play some of my CDs.
Homicidalheathen Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 I worked with this lady in a small office once, where you couldn't get away...and around xmas she would go to the bahamas every yr. She said to get in the mood she had to listen to the beach boys cocomo song.....but I think it was to rub it in our faces she got paid more and thus got to go....she was the boss so we had to listen to her music.....and she played it over......and over.......and over......until I wanted to see her tanned head on a platter with an apple sticking out of those fat cheeks.
Head Wreck Posted November 12, 2006 Posted November 12, 2006 working a 16 hr shift with the postal office was bad. local radio onlu, same 7 christmas songs over and over and over and over.... i have since picked up a hatred for those seven songs i was indifferant or liked previously. i ended up laying the tom waits and peter murphy one over and over on mini speakers on my sorting desk
Vampyro Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 I worked with this lady in a small office once, where you couldn't get away...and around xmas she would go to the bahamas every yr. Wow, it's a suprise... knowing you... that the radio would randomly and spontaneously break into peices when no one's around... heheh... for the most part, working at the taco hell, i have to deal with a hip hop station... but ocasionally this person brings in a cool cd, like i got to listen to flogging molly today at work... yay!
torn asunder Posted November 13, 2006 Posted November 13, 2006 and a "chill" one that includes mandalay, zero 7, thievery corporation, apollo 440, morcheeba... yes its excellent! wow - didn't know anyone else even knew thievery corporation! i used to have (i think it was) "mirror conspiracy" by them, but someone borrowed it & now it's gone... i miss that cd! =(
TygerLili Posted November 14, 2006 Posted November 14, 2006 There is no music at my job and I am very greatful, because listening to music while working makes me lose my concentration. The only music I can tolerate when I am working is classical (not muzak!) or foreign language. I hated the music working in retail, especially at Christmas time. Marshall Field's had the worst Christmas music ever, and they played the same 15 or so songs over and over again all day. They had a version of Winter Wonderland where it sounded like the whole choir was weeping, and a version a Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas that must have been recorded by a 7 year old on helium.
jane dazzle Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Because I work at a casino in Detroit, I am forced to listen to this awful hipp hop (gross) like j lo & puke daddy bullshit. For the most part I try to block it out, but when I can't I feel like vomiting. The playlist repeats like every 2 hours too, so at the end of the night i'm ready to blow my brains out. That music is just SICK.
shadow_wave Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 I work in a metal shop in a small town so theres a lot of country. All I remember is somethin about cornbread and chicken
FarrIL Posted November 18, 2006 Posted November 18, 2006 We've got a system that has tons and tons of music on it. We dont have a radio station. The music ranges anywhere from Emo to Classic, from Hardcore and Metal to Gothic and Techno..... It all depends on what manager is on duty and what the overall mood is. If we want uplifting goodness, we need Birthday Massacre, Prodigy or something Techno-based. If we want something hard...... ::: Sigh ::: We listen to Hardcore. ::: Gags :::
Klaus Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 I work in a Parking Garage, so basically i can listen to whatever i want, since my tastes range from a-z. i listen to anything Currently its Freezepop and Booker T. a wierd Combination, also add in soem David Gilmore and Stevie Nicks.
DarkVampire Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 The only music is the sound of presses and vacuum formers running in the factory.
Zenji Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 we're not allowed to have music on the production floor but when I was in the Scheduling office the ghetto chicks in there had a radio which was constantly tuned to some channel that played old R&B. For some reason the word Kiss FM comes to mind. They played this old romantic soul R&B shit all night. On Friday and Saturday nights they'd play the Hip-Hop 95.5 live clb shows or something like that. Eventually I started deteriorating mentally and emotionally so I brought my IPOD and speaker system and countered the ghetto-ness with lots of Rammstein, Electric Hellfire Club, Gwar, KMFDM, Static X and assorted goth goodies. Walking into the office was like walking through Gibralter trade center...without all the hillbillies and country music.

Zenji Posted December 9, 2006 Posted December 9, 2006 yeah, maybe in some other context the music may not have been so bad. But spending 8 hours a day 6 days a week with two dare I say "elderly" ghetto ladies singing and dancing in their chairs to this shit fucked with my sensibilities. Those who know me know I have a good deal of patience...but after 6 months of this stuff I finally broke. Then sometimes even when I turned my music on, they'd turn their radio up louder as to not hear any of the Satanic rambling (especially produced by the Electric Hellfire Club). Occasionally I'd turn my radio down to catch some of the Gap Band songs or something cool like that, but the majority of the stuff was fairly aweful.

I like the idea that rap and country music is not allowed in the workplace where I am at,they made the rule. PS I know your situation all to well, and I know how you feel.been there before
