Ditto. I even have my own office, so there's tons of space I could do something with. I just don't.

I can't fathom how anyone can function if they don't personalize their space a bit.

I've gotten reprimanded in the past for having too much stuff on display. A person can go overboard, but man, I'd at least need some photos or something to remind me I'm working for something meaningful.

But then again, I despised working in an office. So I needed much reminding that I had a life outside of the cube.

I have a fish in a bowl that someone in accounting abandoned under the timeclock with a sign that said "take one". That is all.

I'm the same way... I'm helly territorial so it's essential for me to personalize any space that's "mine". I should post some pics of my last classroom... of course I didn't have Psychopathic posters but anyone who knows me would be able to walk through the building & pick out my room.

FC those are some gorgeous kitties... there are usually at least 2 of mine lounging around the Command Center, either on the bookcase under the pictured window or on the cat tree by the front windows.

Don't you have problems w/fur getting in your hardware? I just put some new ram in my 'puter & I was appalled at the amount of fur that had gotten inside. And that's just from the wretched beasties wandering around the room (altho 2 of the 4 do like to chill in my lap while I'm working)

I don't technically work outside my home -- but ...

I have a desk. Set up in the corner of our red room, actually pretty much where we stood and got married a few weeks ago. :grin With a all in one printer/copier/scanner ... my laptop's usually sitting there, and paper ...

oh yes ... and oh yes ... my recycled Volkswagen Beetle convertible pen holder. from the Detroit Auto Show one year.

I hate clutter. Anything that is getting in the way of stuff I need for work just annoys me. As for photos, it just never occurs to me. But I don't have a partner or pets or kids, so I'm not really working for anyone except me.

I like my job a lot, and I don't mind being in an office, so it works out well.

Thank you. :)

The cat-atop-the-monitor issue is one we've considered potentially problematic, particularly in the area of overheating. But we get all our monitors off the curb, or very cheap from yard sales. So we've never really had a brand-new, quality monitor to worry about. And thusfar, any problems we've had were inherent in a discarded monitor. So no biggie.

As for cathair in the PC itself, our last computer was an HP Pavilion that NEVER had a day of trouble in its life. We'd had it open a few times, and there was a decent amount of dust inside, but nothing overly obvious as being a problem with numerous cats.

The newer PC has pretty low-lying vents, which have usually been located on a shelf or inside a cubbyhole of some kind that allowed for circulation, but not a lot of outside dust and crap getting in. Knock on wood, we've been lucky.

Still, this has me thinking it wouldn't hurt to crack this thing open and blow it out...

Oh dear. I just realized you two can't ever get a flat screen - your poor cats would be so confused!

I like to have my work space very personalized. I do a lot of creative, as well as, non-fictional writing in there so I like to have things around me that inspire me. It’s difficult sometimes to get the same effect at home because of all the children and the constant noise and interruptions, so I tend to retreat to my office where I can be better absorbed in the mood.

I have a Brugmansia tree, a Philodendron, and a Spider plant by my window with an open container containing clove oil (for scent).

I have a 19th century patterned vase which holds an artificial flower arrangement that I put together.

Several posters; Salvador Dali’s Meditative Rose, 2 fairy posters, La Belle Sans Merci, Midnight Summers Dream, Circe, The Priestess of Delphi, Jonny Depp in the bathtub (yum) in the From Hell movie, The Lady of Shallot, and several Edward Gory prints.

I also have several photographs of the gargoyles on the Notre Dame cathedral that my daughter took when she was in Europe

A gargoyle statue on my monitor

A skull, some black roses, cinnamon broom (also for scent), and a Celtic cross on top of my filing cabinet.

Some deep red lace runners, doilies, and pillows

And last but most definitely not least….pictures of my kids and some of their artwork.

Sweeeeet!

Sounds kind of like the billing lady at my methadone clinic. She has kind of a celestial/fairy theme going, with lots of windchime & suncatcher type things, a terra cotta (real, not that resin stuff) table fountain, & various sun-moon-stars, fairy, and witch tchotkes. She keeps it very dimly lit and it's the most un-officey office space I've ever seen. Very relaxing in spite of the fact that when I'm in there she's usually telling me I owe them huge amounts of loot which my insurance won't cover.

It certainly isn't very "officy". I wouldn't be able to relax and create in that type of environment. I do know several people who find it a comfortable place. Most of the professors who have come in there say they like it better than their offices. I thought about getting a floor mat to lie down on when I get tired, but I thought that may be taking it a little bit too far. :wink
