Circuitcity Versus Circuitcity.com

I like to order things online from places like Bestbuy and Circuitcity when they have local in-store pickup - saves me time hunting through the store and also saves me shipping by picking it up, and I know for sure it's in stock before I get there and waste my time.

I have noticed that several items I've ordered online I've gotten cheaper than in the store. It wasn't on sale either. Something I picked up today had a price sticker on it that was $2 more than what the online price stated. I half expected them to overcharge me but I was charged the online price.

I am not sure if my town's just expensive (and it is - rent's ridiculous here) or if every single circuit city is more in-store than online. I've not noticed it with everything, just now and then, but it was quite a difference for that one item - $3.99 versus $5.99

Yup.... prices within a chain can indeed vary from one area to the next, sometimes even from store to store in the same area. Costs more to do business in some places than others, & the pricing reflects that. In general the online price is going to match the lowest in-store pricing you'll find within that chain.

The per-item prices may be cheaper, but are you paying for it in shipping?

That's the cool thing about in-store pickup though. No shipping. I breeze in, pick up my order that is waiting for me at the desk, swipe my card and I'm on my way.

It doesn't make any sense to me why they would sell the item to me $2 less, but maybe they think getting a someone in the store who might buy something on impulse is worth it? I fully expected to be charged the sticker price.

That's prolly the rationale behind the whole idea of in-store pickup, as well as in-store returns for online purchases. I would bet that very few return-ers make it out of the store w/out buying something... I certainly never have! :wink
