Dubh Aingeal Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Anyone seen this before? Suppose to be a Russian horror trilogy. Just saw a preview for it while I was looking thru the Direct2Drive stuff offered from IGN. Plot (from IMDB): Among normal humans live the "Others" possessing various supernatural powers. They are divided up into the forces of light and the forces of the dark, who signed a truce several centuries ago to end a devastating battle. Ever since, the forces of light govern the day while the night belongs to their dark opponents. In modern day Moscow the dark Others actually roam the night as vampires while a "Night Watch" of light forces, among them Anton, the movie's protagonist, try to control them and limit their outrage. GreggZero Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Oh and nightwatch 2: daywatch thats in russian , lost interest while watching ..didn't know what they were saying.
mallochai Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Phee put up a post about it quite a while back, with preview attatched. I rented it, the first video, pretty neat. Lots of strange filming. The main thing I remember is all the feathers and blood... Hehehe, mmmm.... gooey. So, it's supposed to be a spin on the "good versus evil" plot, but it's not as spun out as it's meant to be, methinks. Yeah... that wasn't helpful at all. But a recommendation nonetheless.
Rayne Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Phee put up a post about it quite a while back, with preview attatched. Yeah, we saw it awhile ago. In a theatre in Ann Arbor ...
Slept with ghost Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 I liked it the effects on the subtitles were a nice change from the typical white yellow all the time reading I do in most movies and daywatch should be just as good if not better
Head Wreck Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 i have it on DVD and tbh i wasnt ure if they wanted a serious film or a comedy at points

Slept with ghost Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 haha yeah that threw me off a bit too but it wasnt all out slapstick like army of darkness was
LuluVox Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 and daywatch should be just as good if not better Should have been, but really wasn't. I loved Nightwatch, and was expecting Daywatch to be along the same lines of goodness, but...it just didn't go anywhere, even though the plot seemed all over the place. Maybe my copy was subtitled weirdly or something, since it wasn't the "official" release, but it came off pretty ridiculously. I'll see it when it comes out anyway, though, just to see what cool things they do with the placement of the subtitles.
HipsterDufus Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 I'm going to have to be that guy. The book is wayyyyyyyyyyyy better. A lot better plot, character development, etc. They changed a whole bunch of crap in the movie (which always pisses me off, a la Dune).
Zenji Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 I saw Nightwatch, haven't seen the sequel. I thought it was pretty choppy but I thnk the filming in that part of the world is designed that way. The plot and story was definitely borderline comedy. I thought it was cool but didn't live up to the hype that it was being given (as it was compared to movies like Lord of the Rings). Sometimes I think they they just mislabel movies to pull folks in, like saying Running Scared made Kill Bill look like Sesame Street, what the fuck was that all about? Running Scared was nothing like Kill Bill! Not even the same genre of movies! Anyway, back to Nightwatch, some of the stuff was interesting but I didn't see anything as original as was said.
