what would be a good one?

Is belt better then chain?

will any brand pedal fit with any brand drum?

I'm just freaking confused!

I think chain is better than belt. Any pedal should fit any drum. Axis makes the best in my opinion but they're frickin' expensive. I used to have a DW double bass pedal and it was awesome, but it was only a loaner and I had to give it back. If you can afford it, DW is the way to go. Currently I have a Ludwig. It was affordable and is really great quality. It's no DW, but it's still pretty damn good.

Well most drum shops have a room where you can test and feel out some of the equipment that they have in stock. This is a prefect way to see what is right for you. The is a great drum shop that I go to out my way in Rochester Hills on Auburn Rd and John R. Great selection and they carry every brand. Personally I would have to agree with Spook, a chain is denifently the way to go and a DW is indeed a great brand to get if you have the cash. Another good thing about the drum shop that I go to is that they also carry used drumming equipment that people either traded in or simplly donated. It is a wonderful way to get the top name brands with little or no damage at all at a great value. You should look around, I am sure there are many other places in your area who do the same.

Damn! At that price I may have to get one.

One thing I just remembered looking at that picture is to make sure you get one where the slave pedal can be detached and the drive pedal can operate on its own. But with the DW you won't have to worry about that.
