Senator John McCain has proposed a bill to extend federal obscenity reporting guidelines to all forms of internet communications. Those who fail to report according to guidelines could face fines of up to $300,000 for unreported posts to a blog or mailing list. The EFF was quick to slam the proposal, saying that this was the very definition of 'slippery slope', and citing the idea of 'personal common carrier'.

I really hope that you are correct. That stupid website about drafting Hillary to run for president makes me leery though. What I'd like to see is an Edwards/Obama ticket. I think that's something that we'd actually have a chance with. Only time will tell.

Back to the thread at hand, can anyone tell me if McCain has tried to do a bill like this before? It could just be me, but I seem to remember him trying to push through similar legislation a few years ago.
