So... I like Chow Yun Fat. He's...well...awesome. The thing is... I'm not used to seeing him as a martial artist. And well, not used to seeing him in historical movies as opposed to modern ones.

Despite his American releases (Replacement Killers, The Corruptor) being cool and all, his best film hands down is Hard Boiled.

My first martial experience with him of course being Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon... I'm still not convinced he's a martial artist.

So now there's a new movie out with him as the Emperor of the Forbidden City, and it appears he's got another role as a martial artist... I'm hoping it's not too cheesy and doesn't render him martially inept. The movie looks cool, basically it's about the Emperor and his wife fighting over the kindgdom and a bunch of torrid love affairs. Should have a lot of good scenes but I'm thinking that since it's directed by the guy who directed Hero and House of Flying Daggers, it's not going to have as much martial arts as one would expect and rather focus heavily on massive cinemetography. It should be a visual masterpiece by far but may fall behind as far as combat is concerned, especially with the massive wire-fu it's bound to have.
