So I've come to terms that my curl hair is not all that bad, so I've stopped flat ironing it and tried to make the curls pretty, instead of fizzy and out of control. But I can't seem to find a product that works for me.

I've tried Pureology Curl Definer, it worked horrible, not only did my hair fizz up, but it also felt AWFUL!

I tried catwalk Curls Rock Amplifier, no good =(

I tried KMS curl balm .... =(

I also went out and bought a good quality hair dryer with a good difuser ... I don't know what I'm doing wrong =(

Any suggestions would be apreciated, I'm just a bit lost here. I try to tell myself to think back to when I first started to flat iron my hair, how horrible it would come out. I kept trying untill I was pleased and now I can fix my hair in about 15 mins and have it looking straight and gourgeous. BUT MY HAIR IS NATURAL CURLY DAMNIT!!! A little product and a good difuser should have it looking awesome ... I just dont know what to do .. =( ... someone HELP!!!

Walk into a salon and ask for assistance... that's the best I can do for ya! They are more than happy to find something that will work for your hair type. Aveda carries products for, to the best of my knowledge, all hair types including African American.

I can vouch for the Ion products at Sally's. Expensive but worth it.

Heh. I've been getting spiral perms on and off since the mid 80's. I've been through a million products. Here's what currently works for me - and works wonderful.

Towel dry washed hair or spritz hair with a mister until it's damp. Then take a generous quarter-sized dollop of Sebastian Potion #9, swish it around with your palms, turn your head upside down and "wipe" it into your hair, paying special attention to the areas that tend to frizz the worst for you (for me, that's the bottom sides). Turn back up and smooth any excess onto your problem areas (again, for me, that means I stand back up, and smooth my hands down the surface of the sides of my hair).

Then take a dime-sized drop of Frizz Ease regular strength, and do the exact same thing.

Then, take a bottle of Fructis Curl Shaping Spray Gel, spray it about 10-12 times into your palm, and do the exact same thing.

Let hair dry naturally. Then, use hands and fingers to gently fluff up the hair so it doesn't have that "wet look". Voila.

I've been doing the frizz ease & Fructis thing for a while, and it works great. But adding the Potion #9 makes it even better.

I got a new spiral perm about a month ago, and I have some remaining damage from an old bleaching on the side bottoms, and this makes my hair look great, and is super-light.

You can get Sebastian products at Meijer's. You don't have to get it from a salon. If Sally's has a generic version, I'd go ahead and try it. I used to use Potion #9 in the 80's, and it's still a fantastic product.

When looking at the Frizz ease stuff you recomened FC, I found this stuff called "dream curls" also by JF... it works wonders, thank you for you first response otherwise I wouldn't have gone out looking for it =)

Dream Curls, huh? I might have to pick that up and try it. :)

I tried JUST the Potion #9 last night, as I wasn't going out anywhere. I didn't like it without the Frizz Ease & Gel spray.

Frizz Ease, for those wondering, is a fantastic product. But it's a real dance to figure out how much to use. I found the extra strength too oily. And with the regular stuff, I find an accumulation of it over a week actually gets it looking better and better. I get in the shower and just super-rinse out my hair, don't shampoo. Lasts about 4-5 days, stays fresh, and then you can start the week over with a good shampoo.

Another tip for helping with frizz - give your hair a really good vinegar rinse once in a while to wash out all the build-up of product that ends up on your noggin. Just take a drinking cup full of plain white vinegar into the shower with you. Shampoo as usual, then tip your head upside down, pour that vinegar into your hair and work it in there good with your hands. Rinse and go.

There are shampoos out there with nettle in them that can help strip this way. But I find nothing restores the natural oils like vinegar.
