Wal-mart

I'm skeptical.

I guess it's a good thing that they're putting these initiatives in place, but I think it's more of a PR ploy to undo all the bad press on them then a real good-faith effort. It might, in fact be good business to have these kinds of products available from a low cost retailer, but the flip side to that is that they will be pressuring and manipulating the suppliers just like they do with their other goods and services. That is the suck.

This reminded me of one night Vamp started talking in his sleep......he is so cute sometimes.....anyway.....he was rambling about walmart and it was hellarious.

Who dreams about walmart???

I am not having wet dreams about walmart!!!!! ROTFLMFAO!!! Didn't i say walmart was evil and we should burn it to the ground?? I dunno, i was asleep.

I actually have a positive outlook on this, with walmart taking initiative and actually taking steps to change the way some things are done to help the environment, though for the wrong reasons, will hopefully start the new trend as america is the biggest problem in harming the economy, too many businesses just don't want to change, so maybe this will be an influence and give the earth a couple more years of life before we eventually kill it anyway.

Still, I really won't give a damn until businesses start bringing jobs back to the states again, and stop paying min wage, and pay wages that actually are worth something to work.

Once walmart does that, then and only then will they have my favor.

I love Walmart.

Oh I know they are almost as evil as Oprah, but the thing is, I'm a working stiff and I live in MI. I NEED those cheap Walmart prices.

I am with Steven & Rayne. Hate the fact that I contribute toward the vicious cycle of their evilness (pay very little, treat employees like shit, lower prices, force the same poor fuckers who work there to have to SHOP there, etc). But I do my main shopping there. I wish to fuck they'd open a goddamned super Wal-Mart somwhere near here. The grocery prices are incredible. Used to do all our grocery shopping there in the south.

If it makes anyone feel any better, I have ripped them off shamelessly in my time, for hundreds, if not thousands of dollars worth of merchandise, food, etc. when the chips were majorly down and I couldn't figure out what else to do except get really, really good at stealing. I don't buy into this "you're causing prices to rise for the consumer" bullshit either. They only kept lowering prices over the years, and if I did anything, it was take money out of the bulging pockets of their bastard CEO.

Ahh, those were the days... the worst of times, the best of times...

Yes. Full grocery selection. The same things you'd find at Meijer's or a Super-K. Fresh meats, deli, veggies, frozen foods, canned goods, dry goods, bulk foods (sometimes), bakery, butcher, etc.

The thing is, they never put their groceries on sale. Once in a while, they'll do a temporary price drop. But overall, their regular prices are exceptionally good.

I thought the Wal-Mart that opened in Woodhaven last year was going to be a Super. But it's just a regular. I think probably they have difficulty opening up Super's in Michigan because there are so many grocery chains already operating. I surmise that these chains fight Supers from opening in order to preserve their own business.

The Woodhave WM opened up pretty much across the road from a Meijer's. I will bet that Meijer's is the reason they are NOT a Super.

Fo shizzle.

I mean, sure, once I bought a backpack there and I found a bloody note in it that said 'I'm the sweatshop labor that made this. I'm only six years old. Please save me.' but I just exchanged that shit and got a new one.

I know, I know, Wal-Mart sleeps with George Bush and they are busy spawning the Anti-Christ, but, until Final Judgement, it's Rollback time, people.

:welcome:

Speaking of which, isn't this the rollback guy?

If I shop at Meijers I'll shop at Wal-mart. It's big business either way! Yeah, we can conplain about low wages and crappy job conditions, but really, no one has to stay there. You can work for a crap job for a while and then switch to something better, this is America. I've never been to big on only supporting big business- I love mom and pop stores, but let's be honest we need them both.

I started off in minimum wage jobs, never graduated college, and I've struggled along to a job that makes more than minimum wage. I negotiated every step- including .50 more an hour when I was hired and another .50 an hour when they switched me to midnights. Wal-mart isn't really that evil and at least they're trying to be green- that's good enough in my book.

Steven, try Eastern Market on Saturday mornings- I'll even meet you up there and show you my favorite vendors. I pay no more than .50 for avacados, the melons you can find around $1 or so, and don't get me started on my favorite spice store! The meat market is competitive, my wine store is well priced, and they freshly scale and de-bone your fish. Oh, the cheeze selection is to die for! Pages of selection from around the world.

When it comes to fresh food- nobody beats the prices at Eastern Market. I really roll my eyes when I go into grocery stores and look at what they charge for fruit.

Now THAT sounds like a very good idea, and sounds like fun too. we'll have to plan it.

Little Imp goes with me from time to time. I should let her know and we can do a group thing. Styx won't get up that early, usually.

I hate Wal-mart, I will not shop there. I refuse for my money to go towards a company that treats their employees like shit. I'd rather that my money go else where. I'm not snotty, I don't look down on other ppl who like to shop there, I'm not going to spread some Wal-mart hating propaganda, It's my own personal choice not to shop there. That is all

Ditto.

I know all big corporations have some degree of evil- but they are just too across-the-board evil for me to spend money there. The horror stories of working there are endless.

Everyone knows this is a business game for them. They're looking to raise profits and cut expenses. Well, duh. So, they're doing the right thing for what many think is the wrong reason. What do you all think?

Doing the right thing for the wrong reasons... is still doing the right thing.

I don't shop there, I'll never shop there (again), but this is still a good thing.
