Oh to be so famous I make Wikopedia some day......or not. Ha!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_James

"He was a known drug user, mainly addicted to cocaine, which he often smoked; he later admitted to spending about $7,000 a week on drugs for 5 years straight, and to putting aluminum foil on the windows of his home. In 1993, James was convicted of assaulting two women, with the first assault during one of his cocaine binges. In 1991, he and future wife Tanya Hijazi were accused of holding 24-year old Frances Alley hostage for up to six days (accounts vary on how long she was actually held), tying her up, forcing her to perform sexual acts, and burning her legs and abdomen with a hot crack pipe during a week long cocaine binge.

In 1993, while out on bail for that earlier incident, a coked-up James assaulted another woman, music executive Mary Sauger, at the St. James Club & Hotel in West Hollywood. Sauger claims she met James and Hijazi for a business meeting, but claims the two kidnapped and beat her over a 20-hour period. He was found guilty of both offenses, but was cleared of a torture charge in the crack-pipe incident that could have put him behind bars for the rest of his life. Rick's life changed for the better when he met and befriended John Kistler. Kistler helped Rick get off drugs and the two were close friends up until Rick's untimely death."

I never liked rick james really... he was a good music peformer however his genre of music is something i don't like either. I still thought it was funny on mtv... saying "I'M RICK JAMES, BITCH!" other than that, we didn't loose anyone important IMO.

I always thought he was rather talented.

I always thought he was rather talented.

Yes he was... he wasn't a George Clinton or Sly Stone but... he was damn good at what he did. I think maybe it's one of those "you had to be there" things... from this point in time his whole shtick looks kind of clownish, yeah... but back then he really was pushing the limits of what was "done"... which always gets props from me whether I'm all that into the particular genre or not.

Great wigs.

decent Bass player.

but I do think he was more schtick than substance. Littel Richard and James Brown did it better but still he's an important figure in music for the times...

God that brought back memories. Remember how after a decade of wearing pants that tight they (the medical profession) actually declared them not good for sperm count? Hellarious.

Oh and might I point out that we, meaning my generation started this trend of wearing your belt outside the loops and loose around the hips.

Yup.

Now my daughters do it with the ghetto goth pants.

I think it looked better with tight pants all one length like Rick is doing.

I am seeing so much of things from the 70's and 80's being repeated and mixed in with modern trends. So much so that its confusing......

I don't even know what is 'in style' anymore.....seems like anything goes!
