Msterbeau Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7Oevq9xCUc Great... This summer everyone will be doing it. Can't she just stick to ruining pop? Which has been ruined since forever.
Scary Guy Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I didn't watch much of that, mostly because I want to smash a computer monitor over her head and then plug it in. However it looks like she ruined it really well. Very reminiscent of the WWII era swing and I'm not just talking about the costumes and set design. Rest assured she has no talent and I'm sure someone else came up with this idea (and they too need to be shot for it). I will admit I like her better than Spears, but it's the same like as I had for DeVos over Jenny. However if this brings back attention to good bands like The Brian Setzer Orchestra or The Squirrel Nut Zippers and reignites the swing style of music, or the ska style of swing, punk, and reggae, I'm all about that.
Medea Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 Actually, I've always been of the opinion that Christina Aguilera is very talented. Sure, her music may not be your thing, and neither might her style, but she has an incredible voice. A lot of the other young pop singers don't have anything if they aren't in some studio getting the shit processed out of their voices, but Christina Aguilera actually has some real singing ability.

No... people will popularize it and then ruin it and then kill it off for a good long while. Better that it lies below the radar where those of us that really like it can enjoy it in peace.

This song sounds pretty over processed to me. Not to mention there's so much back up you hardly hear her.

And while I love the Squirrel Nut Zippers, and thing Brian Setzer and Cherry Poppin' Daddies are pretty good as well, nothing beats digging through my late grandfather's old vinyl and finding classics from the 20s-50s. This song sounds pretty over processed to me. Not to mention there's so much back up you hardly hear her. And that's a bad thing?
GOREgeouslyDecorated Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 sorry... I cant knock a bitch who dances around half naked and sings about cock
n0Mad Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 sorry... I cant knock a bitch who dances around half naked and sings about cock Sure you can. May I present Exhibit A, Yarna D'al:
Homicidalheathen Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 She mentions popping cherries and doing millitary men. Heh. Oh um yah. The song sucks. But she rocks.

I picked up a CD last summer of great classic swing tunes at a yard sale. Awesomeness!! :peanutbutterjellytime
kellygrrrrrl Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 That girl has got some Pipes man...she can sing! Kind of guilty pleasrue that Xtina is for me.....not being a fan of her earlier image.... However, it seems to me she has been trying to revamp her image over the years. She's good. I like the video...I think she looks glamorous & beautiful....much classier than video's past! I like the swing touch too!
Fierce Critter Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 I'm highly critical of many pop stars. But I have a certain amount of respect and admiration for Christina Aguilera. She certainly has better taste than most of her contemporaries. I don't blame her for wanting to get out there and sing this type of music. IMNSHO, I think her voice is well suited to it.
Fierce Critter Posted February 26, 2007 Posted February 26, 2007 ok - now that I've actually watched teh video.. Cute. Nice eye candy. Interesting fusion of her style of over-the-top pop and swing. Harmless. Did it make me want to run out and buy her album? Nah. I don't like singers who go too far with belting hystrionical (is that a word? Is now) melisimas and constant, "yeah, yeah yeahs". But I still don't think it's bad. I'd be more likely to download some more Judy Garland.
