I'm nursing still, but have a head cold that I wish to take down a few notches, but I'm not a big fan of medication because I don't want it to effect my baby. What's been tried by others? I'm still looking for my humidifier.

Emergen-C

Lots of vitamin C and B vitamins - good stuff. It dissolves in water so it gets to your body fast.

(I've seen it at walmart and meijer and it's in the vitamin section in a box, about 8 bucks a box but it lasts a long time. I drink it a couple times a week because I need the energy) ;)

water, vicks and mint tea, cherry halls and soon some of Logans vapor bath stuff, I can breathe a little, I wish I had vitamins. I'll try anything to feel better! thank you for suggestions Meg and Onyx, look forward to HW's suggestion when he gets it. I soo don't want to take drugs.

By the way, when your baby gets school age, that Emergen-c stuff is great for preventing them from picking up every little virus. My kids were sick so much when we first came to Michigan they had to make up time in summer! When I started giving them that a few times a week to drink with breakfast they barely missed any time from school that year.

Vicks, Johnson and Johnson's Vapor Bath (it's for babies, but it works!), vaporizors, warm showers, water, soup ... been there, done that. Many, many times.

Mine usually got so bad though I required antibiotics eventually.

I did all of that but the vaporizers (for some reason we've been keeping a broken one for years)for a while and then called his doctor because I couldn't breathe when I layed down, so I had to take sudafed, baby doesn't mind, and somehow didn't get anywhere near as sick. I'm hoping that tomorrow I'll be better before we have to go out.

If you have to take medicine, Sudafed is the way to go. I've had to take it a few times myself. It does the job without any harm.

Becca,

U could always try the old whiskey routine to kill the virus. Hope your little one don't get sick from you.

Jager cures colds but I guess you can't even do a shot or two with breast feeding eh?

I think this more or less says an occasional glass of wine is okay. Hard liquor though - I wouldn't even think about it.

Chicken soup is actually very good for a cold. It contains amino acids that help to break down the virus. Also, an equal combination of Elder flower, Peppermint, Yarrow, and Lemon Balm used as a tea, sweetened with a bit of honey (if you like) does a remarkable job of containing the symptoms of the cold so that you can rest and feel better while your body is healing. The other thing...Rest, very important. Hope you feel better soon.
