This Move Really, Really Sucks

The move from NC sucked because, basically, I had to do it all by myself.

I'm not doing this one by myself. But it is taking f o r e v e r.

With help from a friend, we got most of the big stuff moved over the weekend.

I've been going over with 6 bins. I fill them with the sorts of loose stuff you have around you - records, CD's, dishes, silverware, nick-nacks, etc. I bring them to the new place, empty the bins with as much organization as I can manage, then take the empty bins back to the old place and do it all over again.

At the end of the day Sunday, I was in such terrible pain, I couldn't move. That's gotten better, but I still finish each day with some problems "areas" hurting like crazy, like a heel/ankle problem I need to see an orthopedist about.

And then there's the asshole next door at the place we moved out of. Drunken asshole. Wrote "Have a nice day Assholes" on the glass of his screen door window. Mutherfucker. In a moment of weakness, I wrote on his own window, "Fuck you too, stoner, drunk, loser". For 12 hours I was afraid he'd vandalize or steal stuff we still have stored in the general-access basement over there. But next time I went over there, he'd just washed his window.

Gads. I still have to get a walk-in closet full of clothes moved over. A few items in the bedroom, a dresser filled with "stuff", some bathroom stuff, a few things in the kitchen area.

The entire basement is still unmoved. I mean a FULL BASEMENT. A lot of it is stuff that is still sealed in boxes from the NC move. Craft supplies, decorations, misc. stuff. I'm terrified the landlord will lock us out or steal our stuff before we can get it all moved.

Of course, Jon had to have the pager this weekend. Friday night, he ended up on a call at 2:30 in the morning. Then another at 11:30 in the afternoon. A good part of Saturday was blown due to that.

God, I hate this move. I am really, really freaking.

Then today I realized the tank on the toilet is broken. I mean BAD. I thought it was just sweating. Nuh-uh. It's cracked in a big smile-shape across the entire front, and up and across one side. Come to think of it, I realize the towel I have on the floor isn't the right way to deal with this - I have to put down a bucket.

The bad part of this is that I have to call the landlord out here. With 12 cats to hide. 12 cats who absolutely were CRAZED INSANE by the move from the other place to here. I could hide them in a far part of the place from the bathroom - a tiny bedroom at the opposite end of the house we turned into a gigantic closet. But I don't know if they'll mew enough to tip him off. I think I'll put them all in there tomorrow before I call him to see what they do. IF I can manage to grab all of them and put them in there.

OMG. This sucks.

it's terrible how difficult your move seems. I wish you much luck. I hope the kitty's behavior doesn't get you in any trouble and that they adjust well for you, I know the adjusting part always feels like it will take forever in the beginning.

Sounds like your move is almost over but here are a couple of tips that can help make a move easier:

*When packing boxes of books (or any other heavy, dense objects), pack about 1/2 to 2/3 ful with books then the rest of the space with bedding/towels/clothes/etc. This will help the boxes be lighter for when carrying them which can make a difference by the time you get to box 23+.

*If you start running short on time while packing, then try the following: Take a box and choose a corner or a room you want to pack. Start packing everything into in that corner into the box...doesn't matter if it's a mix of things...point is to try and not spend time seperating things out. When the box is full, label it something like "Living room, SE corner" or "Bedroom, closet". Wash, rinse, repeat while following the walls around a room then move to the center of the room after the walls are done.

Good luck with the rest of the move, C.
