I've heard the new album. It's not great. It's pretty poppy, sort of like an alternative rock album or something.

Ahh so they went the Apop Route eh?

A listened to short clips of some of the songs last night.. A few songs suck... Most seem to have potential.

It is not like their old stuff, but sometimes that can be a good thing.

It's not as blatant as Apop was, it's not as dramatic a change but yeah.....VNV is now writing "pop" songs with pop hooks and pop melodies. A few songs sound similar to older stuff but it's a noticable difference.

Ronan seems sick of the goth scene, anyone have the Past Perfect DVD? In that DVD and in several interviews since, Ronan makes fun of goths, makes fun of alot of goth club music (including ripping on Cruxshadows, which Mark from VNV likes) and you can even tell in his lyrics on matter + form that he doesn't like the "subculutre" in general (I always thought it was funny to see people at City Club dance to Chrome since the lyrics are very oppossed to the choices alot of 'goths' make).

As a CXS fan... ouch. :(

Yeah, on disc 2 of the DVD, they are on the tour bus and Mark Jackson from VNV puts on a Cruxshadows song and says it is one of his favorite songs, Ronan asks who does it and Mark says it is Cruxshadows, Ronan makes an weird face and does a fake dance to the song, he then mutters something about "all this goth shit...." and even on stage he yells out "why do all you goths look the same?". He is also quoted in interviews as saying industrial music has awful lyrics (can't disagree with him). He also rips on indie pop too. He is a big fan of Assemblage 23 though!

I think their older stuff had goth elements, but was never goth. The closest I think they ever got was "Further" IMO (which got a shit ton of play at LCC back in the day).

I think we all know how I feel about VNV (though they are a guilty pleasure). Only true goths are allowed to make fun of the subculture.

I listened to the CD yesterday - it came in the mail.

It isn't as poppy as I thought on first listen but it still has too much verse-chorus-verse for my tastes. I also think the lyrics are horrible, he is repeating himself. Some of the songs are catchy but I just don't like the CD very much. Still one of my favorites, the older stuff is amongst the best music I've ever heard but I can't get into this one.

Further is a classic. So is tempest. Admit it, older VNV is awesome.

I thought I just said that? Just like older Apop is awesome. Now things have deteriorated into... crap. Still better than the norm though.

VNV started out, where Apop ended up. Cant really blame VNV for being VNV.

But, could take this album and the last, throw the songs in a bag, shake it up and dump the bag out, have a hard time telling which album they belong in.

Not that its horrible or anything. Just , more of the same if a bit more "melodic" and less bite. Sort of the same shift that has been happening since the first album.

Anyway i still love VNV. Even if they only give me 2 songs per album now instead of 8-9. :cry

Did it remind you of Psychedelic Furs?!?!

hahahaha

I love them. I will buy everything they put out unless they start behaving like G G Allen..

But yea, Judgement reminded me of Psychedelic Furs.

I bought the CD weeks ago, I ordered it on Amazon, and I was on the waiting list for the new release.

It's okay. I'm normally a VNV Fan, but they could have done better.
