sass_in_the_pants Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Okay, here's my idea. On one wall, we'd paint a treasure map, like the old style with the dotted red line and the compass and all of that. And I was thinking, we could keep all the kid's toys in a TREASURE CHEST! How cool would that be?! And, on the corner of the crib, a PIRATE FLAG! But I'd make like a happy skull and cross bones, something that's cute, y'know, and if it's a girl, I'd put a bow on the skull. And my husband was all like 'You want pirates as a nursery theme? Pirates kill people.' and I was like 'NO! Cute pirates, like Johnny Depp!' He thinks pirates are a bad nursery theme. He wants monkeys. MONKEYS! Monkeys aren't a damn theme! And, how many people die at the hands of monkeys every year, hmmmm? THOUSANDS I would bet.
mallochai Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Yeah, pirates would be ZOUNDS better than monkeys. Just think of all those poor monkeys, trapped in barrels, grunting and chewing on each other, and bleeding, and shitting, and screaming because they're dying. Sounds like a great nursery theme.
n0Mad Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Monkeys fling poo. Pirates are characters in one of the greatest kids stories of all times: Peter Pan. Or you could do a ninja themed room. Paint the walls to look like a bamboo forest and have a game of find the hidden ninjas that are hiding in the forest. Of course nobody will be able to find any because you didn't paint any. Nobody can find ninjas. Pirates are way cooler than ninjas though so I'd go with your theme.
Medea Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Definitely go Pirates! You can do it without painting any actual pirates. And I agree with Spook, one of the greatest children's stories, Peter Pan, featured pirates. I think Pirates is a marvelous theme, and you should totally go for it. If you could afford it, you could even maybe make the crib look like a ship! Like use some of that flexible wood stuff to put a prow on the front end. It would be awesome! Paint waves along the bottom of the crib... The treasure map on the wall is the coolest though.
Der Nister Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 The idea of painting a map on the wall sounds totally cool. Tell your husband that it'll look way better than monkeys throwing poo at each other.
Klaus Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Im with the crowd, Pirates are cool. PLUS look at it like this, your kids most likely will see Peter pan at least once in their lives, (or one of the remakes that come out every few years) and there are pirates in there! Pirates of the Caribbean! hmm i dunno all the kids shows where the main character is a pirate. hmmm even sesame street did pirates once or twice probably. Monkeys are nice and all, but if you do a theme of monkeys, just paint poo all over the walls and scream a lot. you got monkeys. woo hoo. monkeys. yay. im soo happy for monkeys..... *sarcastic*
Scary Guy Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Why not do pirate island style including monkeys. The lego pirate stuff I had as a kid all came with lego monkeys, so why the hell not? http://faculty.fortlewis.edu/RIGGS_C/south...es_of_lego_.htm Real pirates do kill people though, both on the sea and on land. I'd rather run into a monkey than a real pirate personally.
n0Mad Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Even Fred Savage likes the pirate theme: GRANDFATHER(off-screen) (reading) Westley didn't reach his destination. His ship was attacked by the Dread Pirate Roberts, who never left captives alive. When Buttercup got the news that Westley was murdered -- THE KID (off-screen) (perking up a little) -- murdered by pirates is good --

BrassFusion Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 ninjas >>> pirates, but pirates are still pretty cool. just remember that all your hard work will probably either be painted over or otherwise destroyed in about 11-15 years damn kids...
JaneDead Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 i like both ideas. but i really like monkeys. especially sock monkeys.
n0Mad Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 i like both ideas. but i really like monkeys. especially sock monkeys. (insert joke about spanking the monkey)
JaneDead Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 i like doing that too. though i don't have my own monkey... i need to borrow one to do it.
honeymustard02 Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I think that would be a great babies room!! Its not like you're painting them killing people and stuff on the wall. Not to mention thats a theme that can grow with your kid and give them a room to remember. Monkies are cute and such but kind of boring :/
sass_in_the_pants Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 I totally knew pirates were the way to go. Ninjas are fun, too, but it's harder to accessorize a room with 'ninja' gear, what with those throwing stars being sharp and all. AND, thanks to Spook's keen memory, I think hubby is coming around. I was like 'Hey, what was your favorite movie when you were a kid?' 'Princess Bride' 'And who was IN Princess Bride?' 'Dread Pirate Roberts who takes no prisoners alive' 'And were you scared?' He wasn't, he LOVED Dread Pirate Roberts and his WHOLE theory was that pirates were too scary for little kids. So, nyhe-nyeh-nyeh to him. Like honeymustard said, I'm not going to paint anything violent, there won't even be faces on the wall, just the treasure map. Nothing scary about that. And I like what scary guy said...I think I'll paint monkeys on one of the islands. AND, since my husband LOVES monkeys, and has so many stuffed ones, I can sew them little pirate outfits, cuz I'm dumb like dat, and there you go, a little army of monkey pirates. And Meda, I totally found a little pirate ship bed online. It's so M-Effing cute. It's like $800, but I'm going to see if I can adapt some of those ideas.
LadyWindstone Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 To satisfy your husband's facination with monkeys, you can add Jack the Undead Monkey in there somewhere too.
n0Mad Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 To satisfy your husband's facination with monkeys, you can add Jack the Undead Monkey in there somewhere too. Yay!
Homicidalheathen Posted May 7, 2007 Posted May 7, 2007 Monkeys are gross. Ever go to the zoo? They masterbate...play with poo....things even pirates do in private. Go with the pirates I say! Arrr!
n0Mad Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 A: "Ninjas are cool and all, but pirates are better." B: "Did you just say, 'Butt Pirates'?" :laughing
Homicidalheathen Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 heh heh lol....you know there has to be some bi action going on with those men out to sea all those months.
