Homicidalheathen Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 So my cousin married a lady. (She is female) And now, they are fighting over the house...it looks like she may have to sell it and pay her wife off. And her wife never worked. Personally I think they should have just lived together.....but I guess she had to make a statement. And now for that, she is getting taken BIG TIME. I am all for same sex marriage in general.....but marriage at all.....well.....dunno anymore.
BrassFusion Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 i think the problem is most people are more concerned about just getting married than who they're getting married to.
Steven Posted April 28, 2007 Posted April 28, 2007 i think the problem is most people are more concerned about just getting married than who they're getting married to. exactly. and for all of this hoopla about equall rights for same sex couples.....this is one of the reasons I've said that our own traditional marital processes need a much deeper focus to make it viable again before we broaden the scope. but hey - if'n ya wanna inherit all of the bullshit that traidtional failed marriges go thru.....its all yours baby. I still dont beleive that marriage as a vehicle in and of itself is a failure. I think the people who are getting married who lack the skillsets and depth oc commitment to the process itself is the failure. But thats a whole other tired Oprah...so have at it folks... (this May 23rd marks my 20th anniversary, and it aint cause I'm lucky)

(this May 23rd marks my 20th anniversary, and it aint cause I'm lucky) it's not broadening the scope, and it's not gay folks "inheriting" the rights from straights. gays aren't younger than you or less mature than you or somehow a secondary group of people. they're you. we don't have business "improving" marriage before we allow gays to participate. and of course, not all marriages are inviable. it's what you make of it
Steven Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 <---- also guilty great minds....or youthful ideals. I was young too when I got married. I survived it. Then I figured out that survival was the worst thing in the world to do in a marriage.
Steven Posted April 29, 2007 Posted April 29, 2007 gays aren't younger than you or less mature than you or somehow a secondary group of people. they're you. Honestly now Love, do you really beleive that this statement applies to me?

(this May 23rd marks my 20th anniversary, and it aint cause I'm lucky) That's interesting, Steven. This May 23rd marks what would have been my parents' 27th anniversary. Also, I agree with you that marriage is not taken as seriously as it should anymore. If I do get married, I plan on trying my damndest to make sure that I am with someone I can spend my entire life with, and to work on it when things get tough.

And I'm sorry for your loss Medea. But I'm glad you have good thoughts to fall back on....
Homicidalheathen Posted May 2, 2007 Author Posted May 2, 2007 Yah, sorry you didn't get to celebrate it with them. I too think people say I love you too easy....marry too easy.....and it is trivialized these days. One marriage per life for me.....this is it.
