Wow. I had no idea it took anyone in this country this long to come around too seeing there is no difference except minor variations in skin color, hair texture...and bone structure. Just, wow. That they actually had separate proms until now....I am guessing if you were a white girl (or guy) in this county and fell for someone who was black...you got a ton of crap for it.

There are still parts of the south like this, especially small towns. It's very strange to see. You just want to scream at them and tell them they are wrong ... but that is all they have known.

Don't just blame the South: there are plenty of truly racist people right here in Michigan! I just wish I would have gotten a picture of that "Michigan Nazi's for Bush/Cheney" bumper sticker. Seriously: I laughed: I cried. It was an interesting moment.

Someone finally took it down from the sign it was hanging on for almost 3 years. I didn't get a picture of it, but one of my friends did. If I am able to get it, I'll post it somewhere.

...but yeah, in all seriousness, racism and neo-nazism is NOT just a Southern problem...neither is segregation.

The interesting part here is the fact that it was in existence, more than the integration aspect and that it has to do with school kids. It does have a pretty hefty shock value though doesn't it? Wow.

Older folk organizations are still plenty segregated just typically its not the white-devil-cracker-bastards that are the impetus for them. There are many minority groups that have all-minority memberships and shun any attempt by outsiders to integrate them.

Can you imagine the uproar if there was a television station called "The White Entertainment Network"? Thus , the "reverse racism" (stupid term but saves typing) is the problem now, other than pocket societies in the south with very small populations, rather than traditional racism.

i have a feeling in this situation that the black and white proms weren't compulsory. like you COULD go to either one, technically, you'd just be a token, get some strange looks, and they'd only play "black" or "white" music. doesn't strike me as that much different than the black frats and black sororities at wayne state having a party together.

i actually went to a recruit party for a black sorority when i was a freshman, because i didn't know. i saw a flier up that they were hosting it and it didn't even cross my mind that they might have some ethnic requirement. i am THAT naive about race relations, apparently.

but i went, and was too stubborn with myself to just turn and leave, and they were very sweet. it was a pretty good time. i don't think they were being totally honest when they said they hoped to see me at their next charity fundraiser, but i still wonder what would've happened had i gone

I would love to see a White Causus formed... the uproar that would cause would be rather amusing.

I live in an area filled with Neo-Nazi's. I used to have a group of them come in my store. The first time they came in I walked them to the door while holding a length of pipe. I informed them I had no problem fixing thier PC's or selling them computer parts... but if they came in my store wearing any thing on thier clothes Nazi related or I could see any of thier Nazi tattoos I would help them to thier cars after I broke thier knees. After that things were OK with them... though I had to remind them on occasion that just because I had a shaved head and was white... they were not allowed to call me "brother" or Friend.
