Well, this has all been entertaining...

China signed on to Kyoto and ignores it. Their emissions are way above the limits... they just pay the fines as that is cheaper than reducing emissions.

And look.. the US might have a higher per-capita use of resources.. but China more people using those fewer resources.. they still actually burn more fossil fuels per day than any other country. Looking at it on a per person level is really good for making the US look bad but does not actually present a real picture of where those resources are being used. Their demand on resources is climbing at a staggering rate on top of everything else.

I don't blame China anymore than I blame anyone else. Really... standing around and acting better than everyone else maybe really Goth, but it in no way helps to fix anything.

Use of fossil fuels needs to be reduced.. everywhere, by everyone. Stop pointing fingers and blaming everyone else for problems that are being caused by everyone.

The thread is basically what you complained about. I know this may seem crazy to you, most likely because you are from America or are Pro-American, but just because a country is used as an example from facts, it isn't an anti-country argument. The whole thread was about how it shouldn't blamed on one country but society as a whole should take social responsibility for it.

About the Kyoto Protocol though. We obviously know the whole idea about it, but what it actually does is create a positive externality. A positive externality is suppose to benefit society as a whole, obviously, this never actually happens to a socially optimal extent. It isn't rational at all to think it will, so please, attack the argument not what an example in the argument does.

if this thread isn't about how you think it's stupid that people blame china for problems of overpopulation and overuse of resources, what is this thread about exactly

I completely agree with you. Our environmental problems are not as a result of the NUMBER of people on this earth, it's the cumulative impact of their ACTIONS.

Although, in regards to China specifically, there are several endangered species, most notably the tiger, that are heavily relied on in traditional Chinese medicine, and it always seems like its to treat erectile dysfunction. I can't help to think that if men in China could just get it up, their ecosystem would be much healthier. :secret:
