LuluVox Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I'm going to stray a bit from the pack and go with what TO ME is the Gothest of all songs... See That My Grave Is Kept Clean - Blind Lemon Jefferson but I like the cover by The Dream Syndicate Whoa, nice pick.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted July 20, 2007 Author Posted July 20, 2007 You realize the detroit FM airwaves are doomed to hear all this shit once they allow me out of my fill-in donkey cage and have my own show again right? heh
BrassFusion Posted July 20, 2007 Posted July 20, 2007 I still think it's funny that people who play no instruments and don't know how to read music or use basic terminology can go on endless debates about "genre." It's all pop! Get over it! That said- Cordially Invited by Goober and the Peas

Kiss The Midget Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 how soon is now-the smiths this song is it for me
XDarkPhoenixX Posted July 26, 2007 Posted July 26, 2007 Theres just something about this songs power and the lyrics.... Angels Lyrics Artist(Band):Within Temptation Sparkling angel I believe You were my savior in my time of need. Blinded by faith couldn't hear All the whispers, the warnings so clear. I see the angels, I'll lead them to your door. There's no escape now, No mercy no more. No remorse cause I still remember The smile when you tore me apart. You took my heart, Deceived me right from the start. You showed me dreams, I wished they'd turn into real. You broke a promise and made me realize. It was all just a lie. Sparkling angel, couldn't see Your dark intentions, your feelings for me. Fallen angel, tell me why? What is the reason, the thorn in your eye? I see the angels, I'll lead them to your door There's no escape now No mercy no more No remorse cause I still remember The smile when you tore me apart You took my heart, Deceived me right from the start. You showed me dreams, I wished they turn into real. You broke a promise and made me realize. It was all just a lie. Could have been forever. Now we have reached the end. This world may have failed you, It doesn't give you a reason why. You could have chosen a different path in life. The smile when you tore me apart. You took my heart, Deceived me right from the start. You showed me dreams, I wished they turn into real. You broke the promise and made me realize. It was all just a lie. Could have been forever. Now we have reached the end.
pomba gira Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Gawd, I detest genre-definition debates... there are few things more pointless... anyway I'ma jump on the "Bela Lugosi's Dead" bandwagon (hearse? gravewagon?)... it was the first thing that popped into my head when I read the thread title. "Every Day is Halloween" would be second choice. And... it's hard to think of "Christian Woman" as a serious song when it has lines like "For her lust she'll burn in hell/her soul done medium well". Come on- Her soul done medium well?!?! How seriously can you take anything like that?
t1m3k1ll3r Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 It doesn't unless you go by my modern definition of what goth is.Actually it gets way more goth than that with the HIM cover (though still not technically goth by the traditional definition, with either song). I think Foetus & Lydia Lunch's version of Don't Fear the Reaper was the gothest! If we're going back that far, how about even farther to 1956 with "I Put a Spell on You" by Screamin' Jay Hawkins. Dude rose up out of a coffin on stage, you can't get anymore goth than that! But I'll go with Bela Lugosi's dead overall though, for serious, as far as actual gothic-labeled music goes.

Sadly, I prefer the Bette Midler version of "I Put A Spell On You" over the original any day :-P And I'll also stick with the Cowbell in the original for Don't Fear The Reaper
LuluVox Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 (edited) Release the bats. Release the bats. Don't tell me that it doesn't hurt. A hundred fluttering in your skirt (don't tell me that it doesn't hurt). I just realized that Shatner should cover this. Edited July 27, 2007 by LuluVox
saechalyn Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Nothing feels more "goth" to me than Cain or an Open Vein by Apocalypse Theatre. ("If I told you I was dying, would you miss me? Would you kiss me goodbye?")
