We'll be returning once again to the world of StarCraft, it appears, and not in the form of a Massively Multiplayer game. Blizzard has announced StarCraft 2 at their packed event in Seoul, South Korea. IGN is liveblogging the event, describing gameplay footage being played as well as full cinematics. From the description of ongoing events there are massive changes to the way the game plays, new units, a physics system within the game engine, and the capability to show over 100 units onscreen at a time.

Showing gameplay footage - Looks like protoss ships - floating over asteroid/ base structure - entering protoss ase - similar looking buildings - vespene gas still in the game - character pane shows up on right side - some protoss guy - shifts to terran bases floating on rockets over same type of territory - sill collecting crystals as resources - marines load out. Dustin is actually playing the game - nothing in the game is final.

That and huge speaking character portraits seem to appear on screen when they're talking.

I just wish that that cinematic trailer was more compelling. It was absolutely gorgeous, but didn't give me much of a sense of anything. Except that the Terrans outfit prisoners to be marines... Perhaps it was just a race intro video, and we'll see a Protoss one and a Zerg one. Because it totally lacked much of either of them in it.

About god damn time. But, given Blizzards penchant for announcing products and hyping them for like 900 years before they are actually released, i'll avoid researching it and wait till its actually out.. sometime in 2251.

so on same principles of diablo and diablo 2 we can expect 6 years from announcment

To bad though, I liked the old graphics, I hate squares.

It's about time. Wonder if Flagship Studios will come out with something better before then. They seem to be lagging too though but Hellgate is supposed to be out soon

Looks and sounds very very much like SC1 with better graphics, not really a "new" game. It almost looks like a re-release of SC1 with a spiffed up graphics mod on top. More like StarCraft Remixed.

The graphics in terms of the skins / rendering are nothing special but animated (and from a teary eyed former SC1 player perspective) are neat. Due to the massive nostalgia and Blizzards huge promotion empire this will sell well I'm sure despite this. 5 year old tech game. (same deal as Diablo 2 basicly)

No target release date as yet as far as i can tell. Pricks. =P But, from the pretty extensive gamplay videos it looks pretty much done to me.

The gameplay video "part 4" is pretty cool.

So ... who's hosting the LAN party when this comes out?

LAN parties cut into my gameplay time. Fuckers all like want to talk and shit, and like "be social" whatever that means.
