My friend sent this to me "all caught on tape which im sure is being held in some vault never to see light of day now, comes in for help they send her away every time, finally shes on the floor in pain they just mop the floor around her and all ignore her, calls for 911 they refused saying shes already at a hospital, cops come to arrest her then she dies before making it to the car"

Hopefully some good comes from this.

This is my favorite part.

At the same time, he said, the preliminary investigation suggests that the fault primarily rests with the nurse who resigned. "I think it's a tragic, tragic incident, but it's not a systemic one."

That's right, it's the fault of the person who's no longer there, and no one else's. That's right. You tell yourselves that.

Welcome to an example of the blunt truth as to just how much of a fuck strangers DON'T give over each other. I'll also say this, gut problems are the hardest to figure out, and also even harder to prove as disability, or a serious medical condition.

I had an experience with kidney stones that almost killed me. I went to see a "doctor" who simply said that I was constipated and sent me home. Three days later I was admitted to a hospital and the doctor on staff that day told me my kidneys had swelled up and could very well burst and that I needed a emergency procedure or I may not have lived to see the end of that week.

It can happen anywhere unfortunately and I feel bad for that lady. Some heads need to roll over this travesty and I think hospitals need to step things up or the next person this happens to could be one of their loved ones.

Did you see the story about the 92/93 year old man who was severly beaten in a parking lot while a group of people just stood by and watched? It was on film too. I can't recall the details; I just remember feeling sick when I saw it, much like I do now after reading the article. The apathy that exists today seems to be increasing like the plauge. People can be so cruel. Why is that?

The part about the medical staff not taking her seriously or finding what was wrong does not surprise me. Mt. Clemens General almost killed me. Went there twice......by ambulance......they couldn't find anything wrong. Went the 3rd time......they tried to shove shit up my ass....there was a tumor blocking anything coming in or out.....so that almost killed me, they tried salt water to get me to go......when you can't your body absorbs all the salt.....I had a mild stroke....almost died......

I told them I had divers and stuff......that it had hurt like hell for 2 weeks....no food......they told me to go home and wait!!! For what????

To die? My weight was now at 80lbs.

I went to Beaumont and they found it in a half hour.....did surgery that night.

But the part about people ignoring her.......the janitor part especially.......

Like to think If I had witnessed this I would have gotten her into my car and drove her to another hospital.

Hate to say it but......the hospitals in bad areas.......are not as good. They see so many people who lie to get pills...or are there because they did something stupid.....like od on crack....that they just don't care as much. And they are swamped.....too busy with patients who did not do anything stupid. My sister worked at Pontiac general emergency and she admitted they saw so much action there were times they had to let people sit there for a long time even though they felt bad about it. You cut your hand.....so what.......they have a gun shot wound ahead of you and so on.

Its that no one did anything but call the cops. That is just wrong.

My hospital horror story:

I was taken by ambulance into the hospital because of severe pain in my back. When I was in the exam room the doctor (who had asked why I was on Medicaid) refused to examine me. He told me to sit up. I told him I couldn’t that it was too painful. Without any further examination, he said I was just having a muscle spasm and that he would give me a pain shot. I told him that I had a history of back problems and that I knew what a muscle spasm felt like and this was not a muscle spasm. I told him that I wanted him to do an MRI and he said Medicaid wouldn’t pay for it because I was not injured during a fall. To which I said, “If I had known that I would have told you I fell”. Anyway…I digress…I knew it was something more and I kept insisting that he do something to diagnose the problem. He kept insisting that it was just a muscle spasm. It got to the point where a shrink was called in to talk to me. She insisted that I leave the hospital because there was nothing wrong with me. When I asked her how I was supposed to leave (I was unable to stand, let alone walk), she said, “Well, I guess you’ll just have to crawl”. Bitch. I got help out to a friend’s car and we went to my doctor who did an MRI and found not 1, not 2, but 3 herniated disks in my lower back. Freak’n bastards at that hospital; I wanted to totally ream them but I hurt too much. I’m quite sure that the whole thing went down the way it did because I was on Medicaid at the time. You could tell from the doctor’s condescending attitude that he figured because a person is on Medicaid they must be soaking the system and, in his mind, just didn’t deserve any quality care.

It looks like that woman in the story went to a crappy hospital with substandard doctors and nurses and cried wolf one time too many. It sucks that she died and maybe they will fix things there... but her prior behavior and choice of hospitals did contribute to the situation that led to her death.

I personaly think it is in the ability to care for one another. And some do not care at all for anyone but themselves. Unfortunatly it sometimes seems like our ability to care is slowley deminishing over time espeically in this day and age.

It really can happen anywhere. I went in to a decent hospital with severe abdominal pain, was told I was constipated and sent home. 2 days later I went to a different hospital and they found a tumor the size of 2 fists on my ovary... yeah. Medical care in general is just crappy. It's pretty scary to think about if you or someone you love has something going seriously wrong.

I will admit that I am a bit desensitized toward the complaints of people who appear to be hypochondriacs or abusing medical systems to get pain killers and such. If I worked at the hospital, I would have picked a back corner in the ER for "observation". That way she wasn't making a scene in the waiting room and just in case she was really in that great of pain, the hospital would be covered.

I also think that the major fault here is shared by EMS. They should have picked her up and taken her to another hospital. EMS isn't usually a free service, even if it was an unnecessary ride, they could still bill for it.

That's even worse! "Oh come over here and die in this quiet corner where no one will notice".

At least she would be nearer to the doctors and nurses, in a hospital bed within the treatment area. They would be monitoring her vitals and would be more aware of changes.

But then, as I said, desensitized. I would NOT make a good nurse. =(
