Dubh Aingeal Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Jack Thompson, in his latest bout of zealotry, has set his sights on Microsoft for their recent release of Halo 3. GameAlmighty has posted the letter to Bill Gates: Here's the deal, Mr. Gates: Either Microsoft undertakes dramatic, real steps, through its marketing, wholesale, and retail operations to assure that Halo 3 is not sold, via the Internet and in stores, directly to anyone under 17, or I shall proceed to make sure that Microsoft is held to that standard by appropriate legal means. I have done that before successfully as to Best Buy, and I shall do so again as to Microsoft and all retailers of Halo 3.
BrassFusion Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Wull it's a good thing that Mr. Gates has all that money. He can use it to research and implement a device that will electrically shock anyone under the age of 17 who handles a Halo 3 box. I mean, that's the ONLY alternative, right, Mr. Thompson? The ESRB and retailers (as in, those RESPONSIBLE for restriction of sale to minors, uh hur dur) have already DONE everything else. Unless your broader message is that we need to make society safe again by banning these games altogether. That's the next logical step, if nothing else works to keep the games out of the hands of OMG OUR PRECIOUS CHILDREN FTFO or maybe you're just an attention whore. (btw i know it's not common, but for future reference, FTFO = "freak the fuck out")
EAF (1) Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 Haha, sorry this made me laugh. Really I do not know the people standing up to Microsoft, but whenever you take on a big corporation or at least one bigger than you (wich even if they are a corporation I can almost assure that Microsoft is bigger or at least richer), then you better have all of the public and law backing you up...besides there are far worse games out there rather than Halo 3. And truely if they were worried about the well being of "children" then they would be pissed at the news stations for playing and replaying tragedies in front of all ages forcing people to relive each terrible moment. (Although I personally have nothing against the media...to a point.)...lol XD
Mizuna Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Imagine if Microsoft sold their products directly to the game players. Almost like it goes through retail stores and falls directly on that store alone for selling to minors. People seem to get more stupid by the day. Reminds me of that fat bitch who sued Mc Donalds for being a fat bitch.
Scary Guy Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 ESRB ratings exist for a reason. People too stupid to read them are at fault. Also the disclaimer added should take care of any legal issues "Must be at least 18 to order" type deal.
Slept with ghost Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 ESRB ratings exist for a reason. People too stupid to read them are at fault. Also the disclaimer added should take care of any legal issues "Must be at least 18 to order" type deal. M rating in game are for people 17 and over not 18. Now do I think that M rated games should not be sold to people under 17 unless thier parents buy it for them? Of course like scary guy said they are there for a reason. But that doesnt change the fact that Jack Thompson is a busybody jackass with way to much time on his fucking hands. The only reason he is going after microsoft right now is because rockstar games (the people he usually throws a prissy fit over) has already taken steps to assure he cant try and take them to court like his has tried and failed to with their past games. I really really cant stand this man. A few years ago he made a deal online where he said if any game company makes a game where you can kill the people who make violent games he would donate $10000 to a charity of game companys choice. When a indie game compant did so Thompson backed out on the deal thankfully pennyarcade donated the money in his name.On a quick side note Ive played halo and halo 2 and even though I dont see whats so great about them I also dont see any reason for them to be rated M they are not overly bloody or anything. Its not video games that make people hostile and crazy its Jack Thompson that makes people hostile and crazy.
Scary Guy Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 M rating in game are for people 17 and over not 18. Well like most people I don't pay attention to the ratings systems either, or care really.
Slept with ghost Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Well like most people I don't pay attention to the ratings systems either, or care really. Thats fine as long as you dont let a 13 year old play a M rated game and then blame video games when the kid you didnt pay attention to kills somebody.......honestly how could people even think these parents paid any attention their kids when they couldnt even take the time to look at a box.
Scary Guy Posted May 25, 2007 Posted May 25, 2007 Of course not. People who link video games to violent behavior in kids are idiots.
Scales Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 I'm more in favor of keeping bibles out of the hands of individuals under 17, but thats just me.
BrassFusion Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 we sell a game at work called "the bible game." it's 4.99. it's also rated e for everyone. that offends me. it's like they're trying to market that filth directly to children
Scary Guy Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 That's because it's the best time to brainwash them. Jello has it right, BAN EVERYTHING.
Vater Araignee Posted May 30, 2007 Posted May 30, 2007 December 2020 Mr. Thompson, I would like to thank you for banishing violence in video games. If you had never done this then I would have never felt the need to kill my neighbor, my boss, the mailman and the last 15 cops that crossed my path. I mean, it's just so liberating to finally stop taking out my aggression on pixels and start doing it in real life. Now that I have tasted blood I can never go back, and that's fine the herd needs culling. I look forward to your reply for address confirmation. You friend for as long as you live, ~~~ The Warlock P.S. Stop calling every fuctard in a trench coat Goth. P.P.S. Never mind the trench thing every one is a target now anyway.
