Dubh Aingeal Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 After presenting 'Jericho' fans with a cliffhanging season finale, CBS promptly cancelled the program. The shocked fans quickly banded together, many using CBS' own public "Jericho" discussion forum, and began brainstorming on ways to convince the network to bring back the show for a second season. A plot point in the final episode of "Jericho" involving the expletive "Nuts!" (in reference to an historic conversation between generals) was turned into a campaign to send large quantities of nuts to CBS' NY, LA, and affiliate offices. Fans have sent a total of $26,000 for a pooled campaign hosted at Nuts Online to ship over 19,000 pounds of peanuts to CBS. Other efforts acquired over $9,000 to publish full page advertisements in Variety (National Edition) and The Hollywood Reporter for Tuesday, May 29th. This is expected to become the largest ever fan campaign to bring a television show back from cancellation.
n0Mad Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 If people are going to go that crazy campaigning to bring back a TV show it might as well be something good like "Firefly".
Troy Spiral (13) Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 If people are going to go that crazy campaigning to bring back a TV show it might as well be something good like "Firefly". The firefly "nuts" got a film out of the deal. The firefly fans (known a Browncoats) are legion. =) There is no possibility of a new Firefly show unfortunately due to several factors. =( (I've been a rabid firefly fan for a long time) All shows that get canceled do develop at least a small group of fanatics trying to get the show back, but they rarely succeed. Networks don't cancel shows out of the blue, they count the beans multiple times, and if the beans don't add up they axe the whole idea. =/ Jerhico was a daring show. Doesn't surprise me in the least that it got canceled. Anything that is outside the box that does not instantly take root seems to get axed. Networks cant deal with building a following, they want the money NOW or it gets tossed. Need more cop shows, not enough cop shows nope, not nearly enough.
Marblez Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Hopefully for the Jericho fans, the network might consider the increased awareness about the show and bring it back for next year. Grass roots campaigns do sometimes work.
Homicidalheathen Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 Oh darn. I saw 9 tons of nuts and got excited. As you were.
n0Mad Posted May 26, 2007 Posted May 26, 2007 If "Gilmore Girls" can be brought back from cancellation due to rabid fans, then there's hope for anything.

I'm very sad that the series won't come back though. I hate how the more intelligent offbeat shows usually die.
