BBC are axing Dr Who. the current writers have felt its run its course once again"

WTF? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I was getting so used to Freema too.

We need an army of Cybermen to go there and convince them otherwise, or something.

DBK can be a Dalek though :D

Actually I'll be a Dalek too since Daleks > Cybermen.

(on a related note anyone know what's going on with Torchwood? Haven't really kept up on that but wouldn't surprise me if it was canceled too)

Wow. I thought after a nuclear war there would just be cockroaches and Dr. Who.

Dr. Who getting cancelled i think is prophesied in Revelation chapter 12 as one of the signs of the end-times.

I'll wait and see the official notice before I get into a tizzy.

But they had better not take off the only television show I ever watch.

From the Guardian(registration required):

The BBC has insisted that the future of Doctor Who's executive producer, Russell T Davies, "has not yet been decided" in spite of reports today that he will quit the hit show after the next series.

A BBC drama spokeswoman said that Mr Davies has signed up to oversee this year's Doctor Who Christmas special and 2008's fourth series.

However, she added that his involvement with Doctor Who after that has not been confirmed.

"Discussions have not begun so we cannot say if Russell will be involved or not," she said.

A senior BBC Wales drama source told MediaGuardian.co.uk that Mr Davies may be preparing to leave the show.

"Russell has always said that he wouldn't be with the show forever and he has made no secret that the hours are quite exhausting," the insider said.

"But there isn't any way it would be axed even if he left. He loves the show and he does feel that maybe it would benefit from some new blood."

Today's Sun claimed that the show will be axed after the fourth series because of the decision by Mr Davies to quit as executive producer.

The Sun reported that Mr Davies and "senior staff have hatched a plot to hand in a group resignation in summer 2008 and that the show will end after series four".

It quoted a "source" who said that Mr Davies had become fed up over an exhausting workload of 16-hour days nine months a year.

Mr Davies has been the creative driving force behind the Doctor Who revival, which has been a resounding critical and ratings success, and his departure would be a blow for the BBC.

As executive producer he has taken on a "show runner" role, overseeing all creative aspects of the drama and in particular leading the team of Doctor Who writers, as well as scripting individual episodes himself.

The showrunner role is common on long running US TV drama and comedy series, but not often seen in the UK.

However, if Mr Davies does leave Doctor Who, the BBC will want to keep such a popular show going by bringing in a new executive producer to take over his creative responsibilities.

I second that. NOooo! Personally I thought Gene Wilder would have made a good Dr. Who.

Oh Shit, I will have to put my husband on suicide watch. (I'm only half joking). Actually, he has most of the old episodes so he will have something to watch (he's got me hooked BTW), and I'm working on that damn Tom Baker scarf for him. Maybe that will comfort him. :confused:

Ditto that!

I do hope that if he does decide to quit, they pass on the reigns. With the show being so successful, it just seems like it would be impossible for them to ditch it - someone has to want to produce the show, if there is money to be made!

BBC is government funded (everyone in the UK pays for a TV licence, that funding gets totalled up and parliment allocates the BBC's budget), plus as its filmed in wales it gets welsh assembly money and european commision money for providing jobs in a low employment member of the european union

Doesn't phase me.. the cast can just travel back in time and stop it.

If this does get canceled, the Doctor is going to need another regeneration after this... And I was really starting to like this newest series! One would expect that there is more than enough groundswell from fans to keep this afloat. The new stories are very well written, a lot of them have been experiences right out of my memories of the old Dr. Who's from when I watched them on old VHS tapes.

I really hope that rumors of its eventual demise are exaggerated.

I was watching the local public broadcast channel last week, and they did some statstic about how more than sixty percent of people who watch television in britain tune in to see doctor who. I belive the next sentance was "that's not a hit, that's a movement" or something equally as silly.

Odd, apparently every Brittan I know has blatantly denied liking it. Except for the admin of cenobite.com

Oh look they brought back... well I won't spoil it, I'll just say YANA

I was talking to my friend Paris today, who mentioned that next week the gay pride festival is showing the new Doctor Who on stage there in England, pretty much because if they don't people will stay home to watch it. He said he read it on theregister.co.uk but I didn't see it.

The latest episode was awesome, and funny, hilarious in fact.

I'm probably in the minority (nothin new there) but what is all the hullabaloo regarding Dr. Who?

*ducks*

Why it's only the best series ever in the history of time is all.

After the latest episode I've got that drumbeat stuck in my head.

The last two parts of the three part finale for the season were decent enough, but I think I'm a little disappointed in their portrayal of the Master. He's become just a straight evil version of the Doctor, and I recall the Master, in the original run, being very suave, very smooth, very cool and in control, while the Doctor was the goofy, awkward, slightly manic one. Maybe that's just me.

That said, Derek Jacobi as the Professor was awesome x10.

Remember though, he regenerated so everything changes including personality. Has to be the best loophole ever for "we can always kill you off and find someone else to take your place". Also I like the new Master as he's funny, but an evil twisted kind of funny.

      About to head up to Roseville to return this rental and pick up my truck from the auto shop.  It is supposedly sporting a newly fabricated frame rail...I don't think they are referred to as "chassis" anymore as I see the confusion in shop owner's eyes when they ask me if I'm looking for "body work?".   But I do find it interesting that I told the owner that I worked direct with OEM parts and yet he still wrote me up an invoice with overpriced OEM parts from companies I used to host at the place I used to work for.  With that said, I'm expecting a stellar job for the amount I paid.   ...else, there will be some talk negotiations.

      ~~~~~ Definitely wishing you luck.  Do enjoy yourselves.   But I have to admit, the first thing that came to mind was does roadside assistance reach the desert? 😬
      ~~~~~ Yeah, it's like something happened to my metabolism this past Winter and when I came out of hibernation, that AARP Join Request started looking like something to check into.

      This 👆 definitely goes with what I said in my other post - getting old sucks. Seems like *everything* takes longer and takes more energy out of me than it used to. Really need to work on my diet and exercise, I've found the older I get, the more important those things have really become...
