FarrIL Posted July 21, 2007 Posted July 21, 2007 People need to appreciate Siouxsie Sioux more. And Journey. And One: Because everyone needs some disgustingly catchy beats. Celine Dion: Who doesnt love mushy-gushy sentimentalism? Phantom of the Opera: Do I need to define why? Juno Reactor: Dude, it's Techno-Tribal! =D

Celine Dion: Who doesnt love mushy-gushy sentimentalism? Phantom of the Opera: Do I need to define why? Juno Reactor: Dude, it's Techno-Tribal! =D With Siouxsie, as with so much else, it was never about appreciation, it was about access. Pandora is helping rectify that. And One seems to fluctuate between ridiculously catchy and just annoying. As for sentimentalism, I take my cues from Loreena McKennitt, who takes her lyrics straight from the Romantic poets, who do that sort of thing better than just about everyone. I leave Celine Dion alone.

Been listening to a little of Burzum and Mayhem lately. I got the Mayhem 'Pure Fucking Armageddon' demo from '86, doesn't get more raw than that. My favorite BM of all time would have to be Emperor, the Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk is the best black metal ever recorded, IMO. Speaking of metal, 3 Inches of Blood is my current favorite. These guys are the new Judas Priest. I AM ETERNAL I WALK THE NIGHT I AM THE REAPER OF SOOOOOOOOOULS! Good stuff

Wooleybooley Posted September 9, 2007 Posted September 9, 2007 Techno period. Sorry but I am on a bit of a rant......I am 42 and most of my friends don't share or understand my obsession and so I go alone.......most of the time. How can you call yourself evolved musically when you only listen to one venue, and/or won't try new things.....and have been listening to the same crap for 20 yrs??? When I moved out of state I was in awe of how advanced the west coast was musically. I heard things you don't even get exposed to here. And people still go see Bob Segar lol. Its hellarious. I am talking to a young (like 25) yr old drummer last night who has been in the local scene for awhile and I ask him his musical tastes. He throws out names of 20 bands that are popular, who all sound alike and are copy cats of rock bands I listened to 20-30 yrs ago. BIG YAWN. Well said, Homicidal. ... I feel the same way. There's so much cool new music out there, yet the general populace seem to sheepishly follow whatever generic/homogonized music is laid out for them on FM radio. .... I'm not knocking old-school or classic rock, because that's what I was raised on , but ... DAMN! Try listening to something different for a change! I was talking to some one about new music at work and a customer mentioned that she was getting into lots of new "underground alternative" ... I asked her to name a few ...... "oh I like Nickleback" ...... It took every ounce of self control not to laugh in her face. ... yeah, Nickleback is soooooooooo underground! heehee!!

Although I think Eat Your Makeup isn't that special, they were one of the many deathrock bands that were too over the top in my eyes. But Scarlet and the Spooky Spiders, haha. They sent me their CD and a t shirt to wear when I DJ. LOL.
