torn asunder Posted June 14, 2007 Posted June 14, 2007 can't remember who said this, but i liked it... (paraphrased) "if you're talking to someone you don't have any patience for, try walking a mile in their shoes - that way, you're a mile away from them, and, like, you have their shoes!! "
TygerLili Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 When you are having a bad day, or someone is giving you a hard time, and a coworker asks you a question, it's easy to come across as angry or short, even if you don't mean to sound that way. It's something I'm working on at my job, and it's hard not to sound annoyed when you are, even if you're not annoyed with the person you're talking to.
EvilEve Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 being mean = being honest = being mean = being honest.... there's no winning... 'lie to me baby, lie to me..." no, i refuse.... you're ugly, and you're mother dresses you funny = honest!
Troy Spiral (13) Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 being mean = being honest = being mean = being honest.... there's no winning... 'lie to me baby, lie to me..." no, i refuse.... you're ugly, and you're mother dresses you funny = honest! Usually, Compassion > blunt truth. But, its always a judgement call as to what "compassion" and "honesty" actually are. Sometimes you are doing someone a disservice by not just rolling out the unvarnished truth. Though it is a fairly rare minority of situations. Sometimes there are jackasses that just can't take ANY critical comments at all, that's their problem. But, even then, if we know that, then theres no need to damage the relationship further by spewing out stuff that will do neither party any good. Restraint is often difficult to master. There are ways to avoid certain things that just do no good when stated, arguments that just have no need to be started, points that have no need to be pointed out, bridges that can be left uncrossed and a way to put "truths" if necessary in a less negative light. Some people just aren't ready to hear the truth and all you do is damage a relationship , thats it, nothing else happens, you just fuck up a relationship because "the truth just had to be told." Usually it didn't need to be told we just lacked the social skills to keep it to ourselves.
EvilEve Posted June 16, 2007 Posted June 16, 2007 Usually, Compassion > blunt truth. *pulls out notebook and takes notes from Troy!*
