Fierce Critter Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 Wow. I so disagree with calling the Replacements' "Skyway" wussy. It reminds me of being in the actual skyway between the Millinder center & Renaissance center in Detroit, and how Detroit really is full of bums who find unusual ways to keep warm in the winter. The first song I thought of when I saw the thread title was "Sometimes When We Touch". Heh. It was #2. On that, I agree. But overall, I don't care for the list - it' mean-spirited and off-the-mark. To refer to folk-rock classics like "Time In a Bottle" or "Scarborough Fair" as "wussy" is sacriligous and absurd. I could go on about others, but lists are stupid in the first place, so no need.
Troy Spiral (13) Posted June 15, 2007 Posted June 15, 2007 If wussy means "wimpy / weak in face of very little opposition" its very hard to find a song that fits that bill unless you make all sorts of assumptions about the authors. Usually the emotion in the song is assumed to be justified and the songs are expressions of that justified emotion. But, if we "go there" , then list about 95% of every love song ever written along with any other song that hints at "emotional or physical sensitivity". Isn't there like a blood-oath that you take upon entering any "goth" entity that removes your right to use the word "wussy" ? I think about 10% of that wussy list there would go on my "all time hits" mix. Wussies of the world unite!!
