Dubh Aingeal Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 Mike Elgan has an analysis of Apple's successes and concludes that the release of the Safari browser for Windows not only goes against the Apple success formula, but is doomed to a vicious failure: The insular Apple universe is a relatively gentle place, an Athenian utopia where Apple's occasional missteps are forgiven, all partake of the many blessings of citizenship, and everyone feels like they're part of an Apple-created golden age of lofty ideas and superior design. But the Windows world isn't like that. It's a cold, unforgiving place where nothing is sacred, users turn like rabid wolves on any company that makes even the smallest error, and no prisoners are taken. Especially the Windows browser market. ... While security nerds were ripping Apple for a buggy beta, the UI enthusiasts started going after Apple for the look and feel. Here's a small sample. Apple can expect much more of this in the future. The problem? Safari for Windows just isn't Windows enough.' Elgan also expects that the Firefox faithful will fight the Safari influx — a theory that has been supported by comments from Mozilla executive John Lilly, who criticized Steve Jobs' 'blurry view of real world' just after Jobs announced Safari for Windows.
MarsDustDoug Posted June 18, 2007 Posted June 18, 2007 I gave it a whirl and it shut down seven times in a row while just trying to bookmark a few pages. only twice did it actually give me an error message... the other times just POOF! stickin to mozilla
Guest Megalicious Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 I have no problem with Safari on the OS X, it works well as far as I'm concerned, it the first generation of OS X's that I have a problem with in general. The first generation Mac Book Pro OS X is a fucking piece of shit. We have had it less then a year and had to replace the motherboard, the battery pack (for some reason it was no longer taking charge) and the screen (which apple authorized the wrong fucking screen to replace it with!! motherfucks!). and for almost $3,000 you think it wouldn't be such a piece of fucking shit. Though our Mini OS X is awesome, I use it to hold all of our media, mostly of our son so I can make home movies/DVD's to send back home to my family. I figured if my family can watch Keegan grow up atleast they can watch him on TV lol. We have had no problems what so ever with it. Maybe it just the "first generation mac book" ... huh? Then again I have never use Safari with windows, though I have heard the horror stories of the bugs....:sigh::
Dubh Aingeal Posted June 19, 2007 Author Posted June 19, 2007 Well its a beta. Of course its gonna be buggy. I would be more worried if it had been ported to the virus known as windows without being buggy.
Scary Guy Posted June 19, 2007 Posted June 19, 2007 If most of the internet population actually starts to use it I might switch. I'd rather use a common browser where everyone uses it and bugs are identified quickly and taken care of either in house or by a third party (which is why open source is good) than one that no one uses and gets no support. On the other hand the one that no one uses doesn't have that many exploits either. /me opens up PuTTY and runs LYNX
