Synthetic Dreads

I make dreadfalls/loose dreads/wigs etc out of tons of different materials, but wanted other people's take on synthetic hair technique. For one, how do you get your dreads straight? I don't have money for a steamer, I boil them which holds them together just fine and twist them real tight so they don't unravel and hold them like that until cooled (to set them), and then I use my straightener to make the "frizzies" go away. Just curious, to those of you boys and girls who make them (I'm sure there has to be a few on the board some place), what kind of techniques and tools do you use? Feel free obviously to post pics here of your work/finished product. I always like hearing from other people their means of going about it, and of course seeing the finished product.

I found the type of hair you use is key. For really nice silky dreads I use higher quality hair. It's been ages since I've done any but the kind I used start with a K, I think....oh hell I forget. Lol

But I just used a really high heat dryer and then my high heat straightener.

Mine pretty much always came out nice and straight.

Sometimes the ends if they were too thin would curl so I'd just snip them off.

Yeah, I usually only use kanekalon, when i can afford it, it's easier to work with and does get smoother dreads. I did use a hair dryer once for dread making, I use a wok now lol, it was the only thing I could think of. It's a nice wide surface on the top, I was using just a pot on my stove last summer, but I was getting too many second degree burns. Toyo kanekalon is real good, but even more expensive.

I've not tried to make any with synthetic hair yet, just wool and other materials...

I haven't made any in years actually. But I got excited the other day because the sallys up the street has started to sell the hair to make them.

So I was thinking of getting some and trying my hand at it again.

Who knows.
