I've never gone there just to "hang out". Matter of fact, last time I was there was to go to the zoo, which is now closed. Tells you how long it's been.

Jon wants to go out there with his metal detector. I'm not sure that's such a wise idea (this is a $1200 top-of-the-line model).

We're hesitant to go just about anywhere in Detroit with it. He's been messed with in downriver cities, I fear what he might encounter in the city.

I don't read the paper or watch much news anymore. What's it like out there?

I've only been out there during the day and it's just fine. Lots of picnicking, kids running around, bikers and rollerbladers. The conservatory that's there is beautiful, too. It's actually one of my favorite places to go in the winter. Everything's dead outside and then you walk into that place and there are orchids, and cacti, and other such pretty things. It's really great, though, in the summer too, they have a water slide for the kids. Like I said, there's alot of families that go there.

So, yeah, I'd say it's fine. If you're still unsure, just pack a picnic lunch, leave the metal detector in the trunk (there are lots of places to park so you can picnic kind of close to your car) and by the time you're done with lunch you'll know if it's the type of place you want to bring the metal detector out.

I know they have wedding receptions there, too.

Yes. If you stay towards the front or main part. Dont go back in the woods. I did, and was followed. And there were wierd people back there doing drugs and some shit. But I skated there for 2 hours just had to ditch a few followers.

I was actually just hanging out there by the river with two friends earlier today. It's actually a pretty fun place to hang out.

I agree with Sass. If you want to feel the place out, have lunch in the area and see if you're okay with it. If not, then you can just have lunch and be on your way.

Frankly, I like it. But go during the day only.

We ended up going Thursday. It was actually very cool.

<-- shakes head. Jon picks the weirdest, most remote spots to do his detecting.

Anyhow, we'll be going back. Agreed, go during the day. I felt more comfortable in areas with a lot of people, such as by the beach.

So sad to see the zoo empty. :(

Its beautiful still. I go to the juggalo gatherings out there.

Daytime is the perfect time to go. You can feed the geese, and ducks. You can ride bikes or take a walk. I like it there in the day.

You'll love it!

The last I was there at night my husband and I were driving through, it was busy, it was summer. The van who was driving in front of us had one of those DVD players. And it was very plainly showing some hardcore porn. So yeah, if you aren't afraid of a little dick or clit, it's probably fine, just don't get out of your car.

Jon found this article in the Metro Times.

Very interesting. And kinda scary.

We probably won't go there past 4:00 p.m., if and when we go back.
