Please try not to spam up peoples welcome posts with back and fourth chatter between posters that have nothing to do with the new person. For the most part its just rude. But i'd Encourage you to go back and forth with the new person themselves. Hopefully suggesting that they check out the rest of the board as well.

The whole idea of the welcome posts is to welcome / chat with the new person. Spamming a welcome post up with random stuff isn't particularly welcoming.

Its similar to basically ignoring a new person and just pretending they aren't there (even if they aren't hah)

No, I guess I interpreted it different I kinda took it to mean that the welcome post was just for relevent stuff to the new person and their lives for instance discussion to all the answers to the welcome questions, and not for random sillyness even if it's with the new person.

so can we assume that random sillyness in welcome posts is ok as long as the new person is involved?

"spam" all you want if its back and fourth WITH the new person, to respond to Donnie's question. In that particular case "spam" probably is a good thing. (spam being defined here as somewhat meaningless one-liners that seem more like they should be a private 1 on 1 conversation in an instant messneger)

I think i saw that one coming , but did a bad job of pre-empting it in my topic post.

As for you other guys, thanks for the (correct) reinterpretation.

Can we refer to another members comments? I.e.

Let's say odims says : "Be careful (new person name),DBK smells like mayonnaise."

And I say "I do not!! Don't listen to Odims!!"

Something like that?

Yeah thats fine.

Its just the people that then cant help themselves and turn THAT comment into an excuse to then ramble on about it is what usually gets a decent "welcome" post spammed up with BS. People cant even bring themselves to press "new topic" even on a subject like this which is clearly meant to be specifically about the topic, and not anything else. This falls loosely under "disruptive posts in fairly serious topics" (aka threadjacking) as described in the DGN rules.

      About to head up to Roseville to return this rental and pick up my truck from the auto shop.  It is supposedly sporting a newly fabricated frame rail...I don't think they are referred to as "chassis" anymore as I see the confusion in shop owner's eyes when they ask me if I'm looking for "body work?".   But I do find it interesting that I told the owner that I worked direct with OEM parts and yet he still wrote me up an invoice with overpriced OEM parts from companies I used to host at the place I used to work for.  With that said, I'm expecting a stellar job for the amount I paid.   ...else, there will be some talk negotiations.

      ~~~~~ Definitely wishing you luck.  Do enjoy yourselves.   But I have to admit, the first thing that came to mind was does roadside assistance reach the desert? 😬
      ~~~~~ Yeah, it's like something happened to my metabolism this past Winter and when I came out of hibernation, that AARP Join Request started looking like something to check into.

      This 👆 definitely goes with what I said in my other post - getting old sucks. Seems like *everything* takes longer and takes more energy out of me than it used to. Really need to work on my diet and exercise, I've found the older I get, the more important those things have really become...
