When I was a kid it was never like this.

All my plants are dying except the ones I water everyday.

If I wanted this shit I would have stayed in AZ.

ATHENS (AP) — Power blackouts hit more than a dozen parts of Athens on Wednesday and 95 fires were reported around Greece as a deadly heat wave plaguing southeast Europe simmered on.

Temperatures of up to 115°F have killed at least 42 people in Italy and Balkan countries in the last week, including 23 deaths in Romania. Two deaths were reported, in Bulgaria and Cyprus, on Wednesday.

Temperatures reached 111.2°F in parts of the Greek capital and the southern city of Argos, but cooler weather reached other parts of the Balkans.

Greece's state-run Public Power Corporation said there were outages in 13 parts of Athens — one as long as 20 hours — because of system failures. Authorities said the national grid had withstood heavy power demand for air conditioning use.

The number of heat-related deaths in Greece rose to seven, the Health Ministry said Wednesday, and the cause of five other deaths was being investigated.

Firefighters, aided by 13 air tankers and helicopters, battled a blaze in southern Greece near the coastal town of Diakofto. Ten other large fires were reported, while dozens of smaller blazes were contained or put out.

Dozens of homes were evacuated due to a fire on the Greek island of Poros, while a blaze near Athens was headed toward a populated area, the Fire Service said.

Greece's National Weather Service said temperatures would dip below 104°F in most of the country on Thursday.

Conditions in Romania were cooled by storms early Wednesday, but authorities remained on alert to deal with the affects of the heat wave. The government ordered local authorities to provide bread and water to elderly people, allowing them to remain indoors.

Turkey and Albania also saw cooler weather. Civil servants in Istanbul with chronic illnesses or other health problems were given the day off. Picnic areas in the Mediterranean town of Antalya were placed off limits through July 2, for fear of forest fires.

On the island of Cyprus, workers at the state-run electricity company staged a three-hour strike, forcing some power cuts amid temperatures reaching 107.6°F. Firefighters there were also battling a large fire in the south of the island.

I'm really not sure what you're talking about.

Jon and I have been remarking at how much the temperature is still dropping at night. And with the exception of a couple days lately, summer thusfar has seemed mild to us. Of course, it's very early. Real heat doesn't hit Michigan until late July, August.

We've been spending a ton of time outdoors at parks. Nearly every day, from late afternoon into evening. I've had to have a blanket with me because the shift from hot to cold has been very quick.

I love heat, but not to the point of this hellish hell.

Anyone see "An Inconvenient Truth" yet?

well I for one, and I'm sure candy will agree, think this is nothing. Call me when it hits 130 in the shade, then we'll talk. :wink

Actually, 130 in the shade is alot more managable than 80-90 here... there it was dry. And I so hope I don't go there again, it took so long for me to get used to the lower temperatures comming back... ugh.. oh well, but you are right.

Hmmm since everything in my life relates back to South Park, I'll use one of my favorite lines from the global warming episode: "Global warming is coming and it's all because...(dramatic pause)...WE DIDN'T LISTEN!"

It's a heat wave. They happen, always have.. always will. See, there is this great big huge ball of fire in the sky. It has these various cycles... one is fir sun spots.. it's about 11 years long. Right now, we are in the "high" time for sun spot activity. Sun spots are cool regions... that cause solar storms... that blanket earth in more Solar radation and particles than is the norm. The big affect they have is the Solar winds increase.. which sweep away Cosmic rays... Cosmic rays are what make clouds btw... Which means fewer clouds.. which means higher temps hear on earth... Which makes for hot spots in the atmosphere... then there is the 22 year cycles of the Sun's Photosphere... the part that puts out light... Which is also at a high point... causing the sun to warm the Earth more...

...so you think its a el nina' thing and not global warming?

Posted

Heat? What heat?

Posted

Global warming has no affect that we would notice as yet. Even if you beleive the extreme alarmist side of the arguement... There has been no change that we would notice without instrements... remember.. Global average temps have only risen one of two degrees.

So yeah, it's just the natural weather. Then again.. I'm in the camp that beleives that there is nothing we can do about global warming because we did not in anyway cause it.

I still don't think it's all that hot.

Yet.
