Vater Araignee Posted March 27, 2005 Posted March 27, 2005 Clive Barker's short story In the Hills, The Cities "I told you, I don't want to see another church; the smell of the places makes me sick. Stale incense, old sweat and lies..."
phee Posted March 27, 2005 Author Posted March 27, 2005 Very good Vater... I am very impressed.... Although Trent has mentioned Clive Barker as an influence, he has never (to my knowledge) mentioned the source of the quote.
phee Posted April 4, 2005 Author Posted April 4, 2005 OK...THIS WEEKS QUESTION: Which artist refered to Frontline Assembly and industrial music as "Boring, uninspired, bullshit"?
Vater Araignee Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 can the answer be found in the 03/92 issue of Spin?
Fierce Critter Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 I won't give away the answer, 'cause I cheated with Google. But I think you need to rephrase that. I don't see that the person speaking was referring to "all industrial music" in that way, just FA.
Daniel Posted April 4, 2005 Posted April 4, 2005 Im pretty sure it was Trent Reznor, and I do seem to recall that he was picking on FLA in particular, but was also attacking this "EBM/industrial" cliche that has come about over the years. It has been a while since I read that, though.
phee Posted April 4, 2005 Author Posted April 4, 2005 That is correct... the interviewer called him industrial and he said replied by saying that was like Frontline Assembly and well you know the rest...
Vater Araignee Posted April 5, 2005 Posted April 5, 2005 yup I was correct. Taken from 03/92 issue of Spin.... For every band that I think has something to say, like Ministry, or Meat Beat Manifesto, there's twice as many that have realized the formula for industrial music: repetitive 16th-note bass lines, snarling vocals--usually unintelligible screaming about the horrible condition of the planet or some kind of doomsday message about how shitty things are. Front Line Assembly is a textbook case of a band that---I can't listen to a fucking song, let alone an album. Just monotonous, boring uninspired bullshit. And they're far more traditional and far more exemplary of 'industrial' than NIN is. -Trent Reznor

But, damn, do I ever love this! And in 1992! 13 years later, you still hear the same shit being played everywhere! And it is actual new bands regurgitating this sound! Excellent! I heard he issued an apology to FLA for this some time afterwards. Seems it was more due to bad press he received than a heart felt apology, but I can't remember. Ironically and even funnier is I heard Bill Leeb trashed Velvet Acid Christ for the same basic thing. He passed the demo onto a label guy, thinking he might enjoy it, but I heard he did so trash talking the demo the whole way. That shit makes me laugh like crazy.
bav Posted April 7, 2005 Posted April 7, 2005 Thought you were making a pun off of the new Nails single..."The Hand That Feeds" =)
Rivet_HeadINC Posted April 9, 2005 Posted April 9, 2005 Didn't have something to do with whats her name from the Manson Family? Damn if only I could remember her name.
