Let's do another one....What do ya day?

THIS WEEKS QUESTION:

What kind of music, was the first kind of music to have notation to ever be "written down."? In other words; What is the first kind of written music?

Posted

Ummm... I want to say classical. But I'm sure that's Waaaayy too obvious, so it must be wrong.

And anyway, I'm sure the originators of classical music didn't call it that.

So whatever. :nut

Posted

"Classical" is a bit too general, but you are correct it isn't Swedish Porn Music...

Posted

You looking for a type of classical music, or a year, etc?

Like, guess: Minuets?

Or a type of instrument: Piano?

Posted

Not Minuets, but yes that kind of catagory...

Posted

I'm guessing something sacred, like chants or motets.

Posted

like chants

We'll go with that.

Pope Gregory the Great (Grogorian Chants) was the first ever (from what I have seen/researched) to actually right notation down, there was nothing by way of tempo or meter, but it contained simply the sequence of tones.

Posted

I was gonna be specific and say Gregorian chants, but I wanted to leave room for interpretation.

At any rate: whoo!
