Attention Pagan/earth Spiritualists Here

I'm happy in my current state of agnosticism, with a heavy bent towards the Catholicism I was raised in, and accepting and open-minded to the paganism I once sought faithfully. My faith falls somewhere in between.

I've been to one single full-on Wiccan circle, back in '98. It was with a group down in Dayton, Ohio. It was a profound, positive spiritual experience. One I wouldn't mind repeating.

Someone very close to me has expressed a need to get in touch with his spiritual side. There was a time he sought out things very Native American-like. He's lost that over the years, and wishes to get back into something similar. Though in a more self-defined, self-designed basis.

That said, I told him I'm willing to be the guinea pig and test the waters for him. He's so sensitive to things hokey, dogmatic, or pushy that I need to find something for him that will allow a very wide bubble of solitary definition, yet give him a place to comfortably feel some energy and atmosphere.

That's a really horrible way of putting it, I know. This is more serious than just looking for a place that "looks the part" or people who are simple "window dressing." It's not like that at ALL. I'm just having trouble finding the right words to describe what he's looking for.

Maybe it'd be easier to explain to say that he'd prefer to just do this on his own - but realizes some exposure to the right atmosphere would help him open his heart and mind to things he once found to be comforting, grounding, and helped him focus.

I'm about as open-minded a person as you're gonna find. I can walk into a church, synagogue, coven, grove and get profound spiritual satisfaction. So I'd be the person actually coming to the meeting/drum circle/mass/whathaveyou.

Any suggestions?

The only restriction I will put is that I'm not down with anything even remotely satanic in nature. Believe what you will, that's fine. But that particular path/belief doesn't mesh with mine - period.

Thanks - and if you prefer private contact, PM away.

Give a UU church a whirl. They are nothing if not tolerant and accepting. And he's free to develop his thing as he pleases while having a community to bounce ideas off of... I'm not sure if there's one downriver but there a number of congregations in the Detroit Metro area and Ann Arbor.

I'll mention it. But he's pretty specific on the NA/earth spirituality path.

Yeah... I figured. You'll find people like that in UU congregations, but the overall"feel" of the services is not geared that way. Good luck finding him something.

you can always hook up with me and Lola and Al (Pharoh).

totally non threatening jeans and tshirts environment with some pretty dang genuine people and a great deal of thought provoking stuff, which is always healthy. Nobody speaks christianese there.

Plus, we usually get mexican food in Detroit afterward. If anything, come for the grub......

Buddhism and Hinduism are certainly worth exploring as well.... I've learned a lot from both personally.

Thanks. But we're talking strictly NA-type to start with.

I consider myself a Neo-Druid....although it is very hard to find a grove around here that isn't all caught up in egotism.... would like to find one if there is one.
