I want to make my driver´s license in MI, cause in Germany it´s very expensive.

So questions for the bikers here.

Do you know any good driving schools?

How is the testing?

What is to bring along?

Something special where attention should be paid to?

I started off riding in California in 1991. People are a lot more accepting of bikes out there. When i came back to Michigan, I couldn't believe how hostile drivers were to bikes. I got cut off and fucked with regularly. Anyways.. I took one of the MSF courses out there and learned a ton. I would totally recommend one whether you're experienced or not. I think you have to take a test to get the motorcycle endorsement to your license. I don't remember having to take any kind of driving test in MI.

Jon transferred his license from NC to Michigan.

I'm not remembering what he had to do.

I'll ask him later and elaborate here.

you have to pass both a written, and a "raod" test. (road course set-up in a parking lot) if you've ridden for a while, it's not bad to pass - if you haven't, you better get to practicing!!

Also you have to provide your own bike, and a smaller one is better. When I did the slalom I wipped right through it on my 450 suzuki. The gigantic full dress Harley riders were scraping their floorboards.. finally I just started letting those guys use my bike. They and their chrome were quite happy.

Are there any schools which offer bikes for testing?

Cause motorcycles dont fit in my baggage.

yes - Motorcycle-Riders Safety Foundation offers classes where they supply the bike, usually a little 250 honda (or similar) although, beater bikes are pretty easy to come by in MI for fairly cheap... if you're already riding in germany, you could just pick one up, practice a little to get used to a diff. bike, then have someone with a license ride it up to the testing site for you. (if you show up riding it, you may well get a ticket for not being licensed!) lol

i'll try to look up some info on the classes, cost, & process & post either the info, or links, in thsi thread...
