Public Race tracks?

The track I used to race at in the Detroit area hosts car club "track days" all the time. They're typically $75-$125 for a days driving, but anyone can show up and run what they have. (As long as it's reasonably safe.) I can point you to the track website if you want to learn more. Almost any road race track in the country will have similar stuff going on. You can also get your feet wet driving you car fast (legally) by Autocrossing it.
