Death Of A Nameless Lizard

So I came home this afternoon and one of my recently-acquired long-tailed grass lizards was dead. No idea why. I'm thinking maybe dehydration... there was water when I left last night, though, and I misted the cage right before I left. But the bowl was empty when I came home. The female is still alive, and it seems if the cage got THAT dry they both would've died. So I dunno. I feel terrible... like, what kind of failure can't keep a $4 lizard alive for more than 2 weeks? I hadn't even named the damn things yet. Just one more in a long series of blows to my dwindling self-esteem. (see, this is the kind of self-pitying whining I've been trying to spare you guys)

Maybe I need to have someone come over & do some kind of ritual to remove negative influences from my home... seems I'm having bad luck with pets (among other things) lately.

I had the same luck with fish. I love them but just can not seem to keep them healthy. I gave up on them and I'm sticking with cats.

I seem to remember that lizards can be a bit difficult sometimes though, lots of environmental factors, and it could have even been sick when you got it, sometimes hard to tell. Sorry to hear about that though. I always feel so terrible when a pet dies. :(

Josh thinks it was probably wild-caught which would mean it was stressed when I got it and may have had parasites or who knows what. Gonna call the pet store tomorrow & find out what the guarantee on critters is... but ISTR it was only 7 days & I had the thing a little over 2 weeks.

I thought I'd be good with herps 'cos Josh's all respond really well to me... but maybe not.

ive had various pets over the years and more than one died 2-3 weeks after i got it from a pet store. and i was always told it was something having to do with the critter's health, not something i did. Sorry to hear, better luck with the remaining lizard... name it! quick!
